Doubutsu No Mori Errors

I'm having graphical errors with Doubutsu No Mori (the Japanese N64 version of Animal Crossing). When I access the item menu, there is a graphical black block that blocks out 1/4th of the menu, and the image of your character running appears flashy and low-res. You can see seam lines separating the individual acres. Not to mention, everytime you go to a menu to type something, the screen blacks out for an unusualy long amount of time (usualy 5 seconds). I know this isn't a problem with my graphics card, it runs every other game I have without error... is this a graphics error associated with P64, or do I just have a bad ROM?

The game uses a framebuffer effect similar to the Banjo-Kazooie for the pause screen, and the character in the menu is rendered in a similar way to Link in the OoT pause menu. As far as I know, the only way to show the effect correctly is by using a recent version of Glide64. Jabo's plugins currently can't get this effect working, so it probably isn't a problem with your hardware/ROM.

(Edit: I think various versions of Direct64 can also render the effect more or less correctly)

Glide 64, eh? Thanks, but could maybe you post a link to the downloads? I'm having a bit of trouble finding it. So, you're saying using this plugin should solve all these problems?

Here's a picture, has anyone else experienced this? Oh, and my computer doesn't support Glide64, are their any other alternatives?

If you cannot use either Drect64 or Glide64, then you will need to buy a DX9+ video card, since those two plugins are the only ones that display that menu correctly.

Ahhh... so, how much would one of these DX9 cards set me back? I've never actually bought a video card, I just buy the computers with a good one.

For PJ64's purposes, any budget DX9+ card will do, such as a GeForce 7300GT or ATi HD 8400 Pro.

Technically, a GeForce FX 5200 supports every feature needed by current plugins, so would probably be the cheapest (about US$30 for the 128-bit variant).

err i would get something with atleast 18gb/s memory bandwidth personally... PJ64 1.7 seems to be kind of slow on my old 5200
