You can lie to yourself all you want but the bottom line is that you were paying to use an incomplete, beta of an otherwise FREE program. And as long as they said you have to give "X" amount to use this program in it's current form, legitimately(aka not dl a leak), then it WAS a price tag.You aren't PAYING anything. You are DONATING to zilmar and jabo for their hard work on the emulator and as THANKS you get inside development information and access to betas and WIPs.
I'd rather these terms were correctly interpreted. Pj 1.7 does NOT have a price tag.
It's zilmar and Jabo's code. If they want to charge for it (beta or otherwise) it's their choice. The fact that their code is emulating a console is irrelevant. What i've always wondered about this whole "donating" scheme was the legality of it. Is it really legal to charge people for an emulator if you're not the owner of the copyright and junk of the platform you're emulating? Makes me wonder..
I'm sure it wouldn't be so irrelevant if the owner of the legal rights to the actual console didn't like such practices. It's zilmar and Jabo's code. If they want to charge for it (beta or otherwise) it's their choice. The fact that their code is emulating a console is irrelevant.
Correction: they no longer want anything, but originally asked for money. I didn't see them asking for potted plants, cutlery, shovels, furniture, or any other miscellaneous items to help them develop PJ64 1.7. However, I don't see what that has to do with absolutely anything at all.
Cutlery doesn't encode computer programs. People do. But, keep in mind: only 3 people are involved in the making of an emulator of a console with a programming team of over 30. They released the 1.7 beta so people could file bug-reports that the 3 wouldn't notice, and therefore make the final release all the better. And, yet again, if they released the beta for free, there would be thousands of idiots incorrectly filing incoherent bug-reports.

Hey you're right, Jabo and Zilmar must be punished! They've spent litterally thousands of hours writing software and generously let us use it. I dunno about you but I've enjoyed playing my old favourites on it, but them asking for some financial supports...That makes no sense. Thousands of people who spent the money to donate can still post bugs that are not there.
I'm sure they stopped allowing donations only to avoid leaks. It's a two headed monster. When they are ready they will start charging again, soon after they get as much money as they can from fools they will just make it free again, screwing all those who paid for it by then giving it away.
Charging money for a version that is no better and is WORSE than a free version is not cool and I have no problem saying it out loud. 1.7 was supposed to be an UPGRADE to 1.6 and they failed to fulfill that part of the donation assumption.

No, not right. But threads that have degraded to nothing but flame ping pong are another matter, IMHO.I'm sure you do want this thread closed. Anything that is not kissing people asses must be shut down immediately , right?
They didn't force you to donate, nor did they make any claims that the beta was better than the uncompleted final. They gave people who wanted to donate and help out an opportunity to do so, and as a kind bonus, they allowed them access to the work they'd done so far. 1.7 will be better than 1.6 when it's finished.Charging money for a version that is no better and is WORSE than a free version is not cool and I have no problem saying it out loud. 1.7 was supposed to be an UPGRADE to 1.6 and they failed to fulfill that part of the donation assumption.
1.7 has already improved many things, but as it is only a beta right now, there are still bugs to work out. As a matter of fact the only person I've seen complaining about how it has "nothing new or worthwhile to offer" is you.Don't tell me people were happy to see that 1.7 had nothing new or worthwhile to offer and people are happy about the donation had they known about that.
