You can only "play" Wind Waker if you have a dual core, 64-bit system, a 64-bit OS, and the 64-bit build of Dolphin. You can't "play" Wind Waker (or any other game for that matter, excluding Bust-A-Move 3000) with anything less.

As for you actual problem, either the disc image is damaged or Dolphin doesn't like your system. So, start by posting some specs.

And even if you manage playable speeds, the game will freeze when you receive an item.

As Toasty said, you can't really play Wind Waker properly, because it will crash when you receive any items. I guess it's my turn to say...

If you really want to play this or any other GameCube game, go out and buy a GameCube (or Wii). GameCube emulation won't be a substitute for the real thing for a very long time.
