Directx9/Catalyst 3.0 ?

Anyone running Project 64 1.5 good with directx 9 and the new ATI catalyst 3.0 drivers? All my games seem to run fine and fast for a few minutes and then they begin to freeze every few seconds and then return. I once even got a STOP error in ati2mtag.dll which is one for the video card driver I believe?

thats why I never jump on x.0 drivers. Just install the old ones again, you cant use DX9.0 features anyway.

Did you UNINSTALL previous drivers by the way? If you dint you may have mixed the old & the new Driver.

Also make sure you didn't install the catalyst 3.0 drivers for the 9700 pro card by accident. I have no idea if you can install them by accident but it never hurts to check. Right now on my 8500 I'm running directx 9 with the catalyst 2.5 drivers and its running really smooth...just like it was with dx8. But like N-Rage said it's not always the best idea to just upgrade your drivers because the number is bigger. Make sure there isn't any problems with the new drivers before you install them. I'm sure i could upgrade to 3.0 fine but i looked at what was new with it and it didn't even look like it was worth upgrading to.

EDIT: also ati has huge warnings to uninstall the old drivers before you install new drivers.

personall i formatted and put on a nice install of updates, with dx9 and the latest nvidia dets (even though it wont matter)

i was never much of a person to update drivers or something key to windows like DX. i usually put on a fresh install of things

Yeah I uninstall all drivers properly all the time and clean the registry of settings. It seems this problem only happens with Jabo 1.5 direct3d where the game begins to 'pause' every few seconds..
