new to emulators and would like to find out if i can use some sort of control pad with the games and if so what sort thanks?

Most emulators (regardless of system) allow the mapping of controls to a pad, and any gamepad will work so long as it's recognized by Windows. That includes adapters that connect N64/PSX/etc. pads to your PC.
