Control keyboard with gamepad?

Hi
I have a game without native joystick or gamepad support . It uses the up ,down ,left ,right keys on the keyboard for movement , turning and a few letters to control the game.

My question is does anyone know a good program to let me use my gamepad to emulate the actions of some keyboard keys particularly these keys. I have found a few programs that work the mouse with my gamepad , but not the keys on my keyboard.
any program that lets you asign keyboard keys to joystick should work.

Wouldnt you know it ! Some of the games
for pc dont offer joy or gamepad support.
oh well i just thought i would ask.
Thanks to anyone who can help me.

sidewinder gamepad and axis pad fx

You may also try a program i'm working on found here:
http://galileo.spaceports.com/~neto/

Well, it's still not easy to use compared to Joy2Key(it's and early alpha), but has tons of features (like force feedback emulation).

If you decide to try it, tell me if you need help configuring the program or something.

Thanks Tagrineth
I tried the program and it does control the keyboard very well , but when i try to start the game it disables it self . In the read me it says
the program disables when programs running direct x . Im sorry i should have said this game runs with direct x. To my understanding this is why i cannot use this during the game.
all the programs i have found to work the keys have this problem.
so thanks im sure it will work fine with most simple apps.

Thanks Neto
I looked at your software a few weeks ago its what got me interested but when i try to install it it said something about not having a file or correct directory. so i took that as meaning i didnt have the correct gamepad and / or software already installed. if i am wrong about this let me know thanks

Yep, my app works just fine with DirectX games (that's why i started to do it in first place).

The problem may be my fault. Maybe i missed a file in the installer or something... Does the error message specifies the file missing? I will double check them now....

The application should work on any pad (since is programmed using directinput) so the problem shouldn't be there.

Uhm so many errors....

About msvcrt40.dll, there is no problem. You had the file previosly installed, so there is no problem if you ignore its installation.

The problem is in Neto SuperKeyboard.ocx . I'll make a new installer now. It will be ready at least in an hour

Doomulation

?????????????????????????
just hitting start-menu->run and typing regsvr32 "Neto SuperKeyboard.ocx" should do the trick.
And don't forget, the quotes should be there.

I don't know if that would work. The problem is that it seems i didn't included the file in the first place...

Anyway, i posted in my webpage an updated alpha. It's highly recommend you uninstall the previous version before installing the new version.

The program should run fine now.

Test it, and if you can't figure out how to make it work with your game, just tell me which buttons you will use, and wich keys will they press; and I'll make you a profile for that game as soon as i can.

Hi
Yes it is a interact pad with rumble . but i also have a sidewinder gamepad and a sidewinder joystick pro. I plan on testing the sidewinder pad . Is that ok any conflicts? thanks

EDIT, dude it works this is one of the best apps i have ever seen.
all credit goes to Neto the fix did it.

No, i think it should work fine on any pad. But i have tested on interact's so far (since it's the only pad I have).

When you get the program running, check the gamepad picture in the main tab and press some buttons or move some axis. If dots move (or appear) then there should be no problem.

Good luck again!

EDIT: Good it worked! Funny thing, i posted too late. :)

dude it works this is one of the best apps i have ever seen.
Just as a reminder, the "application profiles" and the "create/modify profiles" tabs don't work yet. So profiles can be added manually only. Everything else should be fully functional.

You're not sure you included a custom made ocx control?

I just forgot to add it... I saved those ocxs i made in different places. And the installer application didn't help that much. Anyway, it is working properly now... (at least it seems to...)
