As most of you probably know, I think the 64DD 0wn5.

But what do you guys think of console hardware add-ons? And would you like to see any on the latest wave of next gen consoles?

I own Mega CD, i remember it was really nice when it was released but i think these things have always been far too much expensive.

er, i think they are both cool and a waste of time. i mean they usually do fuk all or just make a good console play bad games with good graphics (me looks at 32x)...but they r so fun plugging in to the console, and look really high-tech, as if they were even worth buying. so...er...i aint voting till i can choose both the cool, and pointless options.

Unless your talking 32X in which case "really high tech" is replaced by "really like a mushroom"... ;)
Fun fact - I actually found a 32x with Doom, Virtua Racing and (MetalHead?) at a car boot sale, buried under a pile of stuff, for £5 altogether.

the bad thing is, developers know that not everyone buys it, therefore very few are willing to risk spending vast amounts of money and people on a game (for the addon) that can only be played by a limited amount of people. Other than the initial batch of games at the launch, the rest is usually :(.

Ironic, really, that the worlds most succesful console started life as a proposed SNES add-on..

but it succeeded as a console, not as an addon

btw, now that there is ps1 and ps2, doesnt psx represent both ps1 and ps2, just like gbx represents gb/sgb/gbp/gbc/gba?

No, the `X` in PSX was used as a way of shorthanding PlayStation. Nobody knows what it stood for.

I remember there being a lot of talk about many different hardware add-on's for the Dreamcast. I remember seeing shots of the ZIP drive and thinking `damn, that'd be cool`.. :)

I know. Originally, the SNES CDROM addon was a deal with Nintendo and Sony....at the last minute, Nintendo backed out, and Sony was pissed. The name of the addon was "PlayStation"...so when Sony decided to go out on their own, they called their system, the PlayStation X. The X was dropped before release.

Actually, Sega32x was fairly powerful...twin Hitachi SH2 32bit RISC processors is pretty nice. That also forms the core processing of the Sega Saturn/STV systems.

Actually it was. The most advanced 2d graphics system ever. And it was more powerful than PS1, just too hard to use efficiently.
