Chrono Cross

I've been trying to get Chrono Cross to work on my ePSXe 1.6.0. After the menu comes on and i select play a new game, the screen turns to black, as if to load the game, but it stays black.

What the hell is going on?

Apparently this is a very common problem with Chrono Cross, a couple things worked for me... Using ePSXe 1.5.2 or using 1.6.0 with the -noauto command.

Thanks for the help Jesterhead.

By the way... is there a way to run the -noauto command without having to use the command line? My ePSXe is pretty deep into my computer... it takes a long time to write out the directory that its in.

Create a shourtcut to ePSXe.exe, right click and go into the properties. In the target box, at the end add -noauto like this example:

"C:\Program Files\Emulators\PlayStation\ePSXe.exe" -noauto

Remember the space between -noauto and the address. It works fine (just tested it out). Now all you need to do is click this shortcut when you want to run Chrono Cross.

Damn.... cursed demons of emulation!! Everything is workin except when i try to check my characters status. When i select 'Status' in my menu, the screen turns and stays black.
What could be causing such a delema?

Also could be due to the framebuffer settings. Experiment with them (assuming you're using pete's gfx plugin). I know that the status screen worked for me.

PS. I think you can play the game with 1.6.0 after you get past the new game point and make a save/savestate.

PPS. CC is a really wonderful game! Maybe i should play it through the 3rd time sometime ;)

How do i change the framebuffer settings?

Plugin: P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver 1.1.16

Resolution/Color:
- 320x240 Fullscreen - [16 Bit]
Stretch mode: 0
Dither mode: 2

Framerate:
- FPS limit: on
- Frame skipping: off
- FPS limit: Auto

Misc:
- Scanlines: disabled
- Game fixes: on [00000001]

Ok, it just might be so that CC isn't working properly with PEOpS Soft. You should try the latest version P.E.Op.S. Soft GPU 1.17 or Pete's hardware accelerated plugins (unless you don't have a decent graphics card).

With P.E.Op.S. Soft GPU 1.17 the game seems to work fine... I got the status screen up and all. One thing I found out through all of this is that you get a different 3rd character at the beggining everytime you restart, I thought that was kinda cool... apparently there are over 40 different playable characters in this game :icecream:

One more question... my Thousand Arms .iso dosent work properly when the -noauto switch is on... what exactly is the -noauto switch and what does it do?

If i remember correctly, it's explained in the readme.txt (which of course you have read, right?). If not then i cannot help you.

I read the readme, i found some interesting switches such as the -slowboot witch allows you to view the Sony opening sequence (which really brought back memories of when i first bought a ps1 and was amazed when the opening sequence came on, with that cool "beeeeeeeewwww deeeeeeeeeew waaaa bing wAAAA bING swish swish" sound, it was as cool as the THX sound).

Anyways, no mention of the -noauto switch... I Googled it and didnt see much either. So Clements, where did you find such a "mysterious and powerful" switch?

galtor mentioned it at NGEmu, in regards to CC no less.

Apparently the -noauto has something to do with timing or something. The CC setup thread on NGEmu is so damn redundant, ppl are stupid posting the same questions on the thread over and over. Knowing that -noauto has something to do with timing is good enough for me i guess... my attention span is like, short... so, as for the exact true nature of this -noauto command, well... piss on it, i'mma go play video games now. And then maybe abuse some substances. And my cat. Then go buy some nachos.
Thank you allnatural, I applaud your multi-forum omnipresence.
