Chrono Cross Startup Problem

Hi everyone,

I am experiencing a mysterious little problem with Chrono Cross. I know, a year ago or so, I played it on ePSXe and there were no problems at all. Today I tried to play it again, but after watching the (great!) intro and pushing for a "New Game" and "Vibration ON" the Screen becomes black and NOTHING happens anymore. Can anyone help me with this? Any Plugin Problems maybe?

Wrong forum, but no matter.

I've read of numerous problems with Chrono Cross and the latest build of ePSXe. It would be best to browse the NGEmu boards; I believe they even have a sticky thread dealing with this. Among other fixes, you could try running with the -noauto switch. Older versions of ePSXe should work as well.

Crono Cross.....

these 2 fixes almost always solve problems with chrono cross

Use ePSXe 1.5.2.....do not use 1.6.0 (problems to numerous to mention)

start ePSXe using the -noauto run line command

check the message boards at www.ngemu.com

Don't use vibration on. Keep it off and it should be ok.

Plus as previously stated it's better to use epsxe 1.5.2

I've not seen that vibration on or off really make a difference in running chrono cross.

-noauto fixes most problems but the FMVs sometimes puke on 1.6.0 where they do not on 1.5.2. the sticky thread that Allnatural mentions basicly lists 1.5.2 and -noauto as the solutions.

oh and use subchannel reading on the cd-rom plug-in. To speed things up, you could cache the sub channel to the hard drive and then it will only read the sub channel the first time you use the CD. After that the long wait is avoided.

here is a link to the sticky thread about chrono cross and epsxe http://www.ngemu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42197

Fair enough. It was just an idea. I remember seeing it somewhere on ngemu that's all. :)

huddo... thought about it a bit...

if vibration is configured properly it is not an issue. If its not configured at all, it's not an issue. but if it is configured improperly it may cause a crash. My pad plugin borks if I try sine for my small motor (dualshock on a radioshack psxtousb). yet both motors work just fine with constant for the large motor and none for sine. I've just had amazingly poor luck with 1.6.0. I'm sure it's better than 1.5.2 but since I play mainly square games (FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, CC, LoM) I pretty much go with 1.5.2.

Hm... just tried to shut off Force Feedback, but it still wont go further than the Screen for "Vibration On/Off". Ah well, I guess I´ll have ta try 1.5.2 again. Thx for all the help.
