hey guys..i am just trying to run resident evil 2 for the n64 emulator project 64. now before i begin let me just say that i have searched extensively on how to run this rom without any "deifinitive" solution. all the solutions that i have tried crash or the framerates drop to 0.

let me describe the process.

ok first of all i have downloaded the latest project 64 1.5.

i downloaded rices 4.6.0 daedalus plugin, downloaded azimers 0.4. sound plugin.

now when i run the emulator with jabo plugin 1.5 it works great, and the sound is there just for the intro screen (no speech or music). when i choose a character (leon) and then the violence level and blood colour, everything runs fine. however when i hit start, project 64 stalls and then crashes.. i get this error - cannot protect [number] and i cannot kill that process without restarting.

i try the emulator with rice's plugin, and the same thing happens.

can i get some advice on how to run this rom? i also have some questions.

1. which rsp plugin should i use? the included one or the unofficial daedalus one that i have read about. if i am to use the unofficial one, where do i get it? i looked in the downloads section and all i found was the source code (page 2 of downloads section).

2. which graphics plugin should i use and what are the settings? i have a riva tnt2 16 mb card.

3. which sound plugin should i use?

thanks for your time

I use the Unofficial Daedalus plugin for graphics, any sound plugin, and the unofficial RSP. I'll attach the unoff. RSP:

wow thank you very much..i will try this out right away....

i also forgot to ask, how do u configure the rsp plugin in project 64? and why is it that u have to use the unofficial rsp plugin and not the one that comes with pj64?

another question i forgot to ask is how can i terminate the 1964.exe process in the task manageR? i tried using the stop command and the kill cpu thread command within 1964 but it wont kill the process, very upsetting. i cannot copy the rsp.dll cuz its still in use .

Quickly restart your computer (That should stop 1964 for sure). Take the Official RSP out of the plugin folder and keep it in a safe place, and then put the unofficial in its place (You can do this with both 1964 and PJ64). With 1964, you have to enable the RSP in the plugin menu, with PJ64, you don't need to. I do recommend PJ64 for this game as I couldn't get it working with 1964 for some strange reason.

The Unofficial Daedalus is a bit better than Jabo's IMO, but you can use Jabo's just fine.

ok i use jabo's but right after i finish with the startup screen (character selction, violence, blood colour etc.) the game freezes. is the rom supposed to start up right after u hit start? i was waiting for 15 mins and nothing happened.

and where do u get the unofficial daedalus? is that rice's plugin 4.6.0?

thanx

well i tried using rice plugin and jabo's plugin and the same thing happens.....the game freezes right after the startup screen. nothing happening. can u advise me on what u think is happening? is there some special setting that i am missing?

I think only the source is only available so I'll attach it. The game has lots of unemulated parts in it which you must skip. To do this, keep pressing the Z-Button (whatever you assigned that to) to skip the black screen.

so is it normal for the game to freeze like that and i can just press z and that would solve it?

when u say unemulated....u are referring to the cutscenes? cuz i used to be able to c the cut scenes, but i just couldnt hear anything...now i cant even get to the cutscenes :p.

oh am i also using n-rage 1.82..is this a problem?

You can view the cutscenes with Jabo's, but not the Unofficial Daedalus. I prefer the Unofficial Daedalus as it doesn't flicker in-game as much. You can decide which one you like best.

If you use the Unofficial RSP with Jabos, you can hear some speech, but it goes weird after that.

Try disabling the limiter (system>Limit FPS), as you may be able to skip the black screens quicker that way (if using Unofficial Daedalus)

You can use any contoller plugin you like.

wow..clements u been a big help man..but the thing keeps on stalling no matter what i do. i get this error - failed to unprotect [number]

i have tried adjusting the rsp core from interpreter to recompiler etc but that doesnt help at all either.
tried using the n-rage and jabo but nuthing works...the frame rates are great but it aint so great when u cant play.

any other suggestions?

should i use dx9? right now i am using dx81 not sure if its b or not...i ran dxdiag..but it didnt say what version...only 8.1. do u know how to tell if its (b) or not?

thanx

I'm not sure about that, I'm afraid, I've never had that particular error. A re-installation of PJ64 could fix it.

As for upgrading to DX 9.0 or 9.0a, it won't help you with the problem, but may increase your computer's general performance, so I would recommend that, but you don't have to. Not sure on the b thing, you probably have 8.1.

hey clements i finally got it working lol!@ little bit of a mix up. for some odd reason when i first opened project 64 it put the rom in a folder called n64ren. i was downloading resident evil from 2 diff sources, but i think something project 64 or maybe goodrom did to the file. i dont know what actually caused the mix up but apparently the file came out smaller than it was supposed to have been. could have been the file was completely downloaded, good rom did something to it, or project 64 did something to it. in any case, i used the other one i downloaded and it worked perfect@! i am nowplaying res. evil 2 wuhoo@! there are a few more questions that i have tho.

1.is there a different audio plug that i can use besides azimers? it works really nice however there are some glitches when playing the intro video. (i can live with it if there arent any alternatives). in game sound works awesome with 0.40 beta.

2. jabo's 3d6 1.5 plugin runs the intro cutscenes awesome, however, the play is glitchy. the models fade in and out when playing. Daedalus and Rice's plugin work awesome, no glitches, but dont play intro cutscene.

if u can let me know where to get the latest jabo's plugins that would be great also.

for ppl looking for a good resident evil 2 config....i will show u the tests of mine.

video plugins....

jabo's 3d6 1.5 - this works great playing cutscenes and animations, however in game the models fade in and out rapidly giving off a flicker effect.

daedalus unofficial release 3.0 - works awesome but doesnt play intro cutscenes

rice's daedalus 4.6.0. -works awesome as well and same as above, doent play intro cinematics. (and prolly wont play "out of game" cutscenes).

sound......

azimers .40 beta - great sound plugin, make sure u turn of the .21 style option..it slows the framerate right down and doesnt give any improvement. the sound isnt perfect..but its definitely audible for the most part.

azimers .30 doesnt work as well as this.

controllers.........

n-rage works great, jabo's direct 1.7 works good also. i dont think there is any real diffence with the controllers...they all work well.

there is one small glitch tho...i have tried numerous times to aim down and shoot with different controllers, and i cannot shoot downwards while holding the action stance button. to override this i have had to point downwards with a gun, release action stance, and press fire immediately after this. its a tad bit annoying so if anyone has a fix for this let me know :).

well have fun ppl!@

oh i forgot another thing,

is there any way to post those files in the downloads section clements? they would be very handy for ppl coming in. the unofficial daedalus on the downloads section is the source code i believe.

hey martin...(i suspect u are the owner or the admin of this forum) :). can we please place the unofficial daedalus and rsp.dll files in the download section? it will help a lot of nubs like myself to be able to run emulators hitch-free and save u the headache of constantly reading over mind-numbing posts about problems that we are having

thanx for your time :).

No, I'm not the admin or owner of this forum. I am the admin and the owner of this forum. :getlost: ;)

Any mod can add them, it's just that I do all the work around here. Just kidding, I just 95%. ;)

Link me to the files to be added and I'll get them added to our database
