It is about time for me to upgrade my system. I would like some hardware sugestions. Please be resonable with the price range of the product... I am in grad school. ;)

I have a TNT2... I know time for an upgrade. Anyway I am not a serious gamer. I just would like to find something that would optimze PJ64. I figure that it is pointless to ask any questions with current problems until this is addressed. Thanks

Pentium(R) 4 CPU 1500MHZ

All your specs seem fine for N64. Only the video card is in urgent need of upgrade. If you have a really small budget then get a GF2 3 or 4. Even the GF4ti can be had for under $50 with the others between $15-$30.

No, no, no... try the higher cards. Geforce 6600, maybe 6600 GT and Geforce 6800 for a geforce. They're really cheap, and powerful to boot.
When then new cards hit the market, those prices are sure to drop too.

Hehehehe! At least your GFX card isn't currently a S3 Pro Savage! ROFL!!!!

Doomulation's right. Go for these! They really do the trick...at least, more than my old Geforce 2MX, lol.

Don't buy geforce 6600, go for a 6600GT it kickes 6600. That card may be useful for other games too, if you wanna play something more hardware requiring than n64 emulating in the future.

If you want a new cpu go for a Amd xp 64 3000+ or something like that. Amd are better and cheaper than Intel (at the moment).

ermm.... for emulation 5200 is fine
but, if you like to spend 200 bucks on an 6600GT, only for emulation, it´s your problem

AND...you may need to change your power suply...and/or mother (if it´s only AGP2x)
and last: that pentium willamette  will botleneck the 6600GT

so......

Yeah for emulating n64 5200 works fine but if he want to play some new games later on, the card won't fix it. And yeah he's cpu may be a little slow :p... thats why he needs to buy an Amd xp 64 3000+ :D. If you're sure that you only wants to play n64, geforce fx5200 will work fine.

thanks for the replies...
Yes i would like to be able to play more advanced games in the future, but that future is not right now. I am a grad student at KSU. That means i am highly exploited for little or no money durring the school year. (try two freshman classes with 150 students a peice + my regular classes + my thesis + living off of $600 a month) Yes Yes I know according to Bart I just made a wrong life decision!! Seeing that it is summer the school expects us to go into hibernation. That is no pay, unless you are fortunate enough to teach a summer class. Whne the school year starts back up I will be in a better position to upgrade my computer more thoroughly. I hope that I receive the same attention then too. All I use my computer for is gaming (nes, snes, N64, and statistical programs such as SPSS)! So any advice for future upgrades will have to wait untill then. Thanks again... I will try to see whats in my budget, out of the cards that have been mentioned.

Don't be a fanboy! It doesn't matter if you get raedon or nvidia, it's all a matter of preference.
