broken ps2 advice

ok, i was playing a copied version of vf4, and i hav played a trillion times b4, on my ps2, and by accident i kinda left it on for about 5-6 hours. anyway i came back to it, and noticed the ps2 was making a buzzing noise. i took out the cd, and tried an official game, and ps2 refused to read it, then i tried a dvd, and a music cd, and the same results. now this is the thing, i dont hav a mod (i use card swap trick and actionreplay 2 to play cdrs), so the warranty is still fine and untouched. buuut i never got the receit as my mate who used to work at EB forgot to give me a receit when he got me the discount on the ps2. so i hav no receit. i think the prob is the laser, im not sure though, the cd tray also makes a funny noise when opening it. im real stuck on wat to do...sony customer services is gonna be closed for today and tommorow (bank holidays), so ive got time to think.

in order to play cdrs with actionreplay, u need to remove the ps2 cd tray lid (the thing with the psx logo on it). and then u stick a thin object to open the cd tray, bypassing a copy check. simple, and shouldnt really harm ur ps2. (i think the fact i left copied media in the ps2 for so long is wat buggered up the laser) but another prob is that when removing the cd tray lid, i snapped one of the clips...this could void my warranty. one out of 2 clips still remains intact (the clips hold the cd tray lid in place), so the cd tray lid does still fit and stay on the ps2 cd tray...im not quite sure wat to do..

this has been one shitty day, not only is my ps2 bust, but my dog is ill as well, and i woke up earlier to find diaherea all over the kitchen. and cos my parents are away for the weekedn i had to clear everything up. :(

I know someone who fixed his own PS2 after it wouldn't read any discs.. I'll get him to post something when he's online next. (If I can drag him away from his new toy, that is)..

i had a PS2 go out on me the other day too.
the power supply just totaly went dead while watching a DVD.
it was plugged into a pretty good surge protecter so i know it was'nt my fault, i think it was just a defect.
called sony and they offered to fix it for $130, i told them to go screw themselves. what a waste.

Yes, especially PS2 seems very fragile. I still have my NES, in working condidtion with just a few scratches.

whoa, very impressed with sony's customer service. they said they will replace the ps2 free of charge next monday. i cant really ask for much better service than that. i dont even need to show the receit.

In that case they probably found out it was a system design defect and are trying to quietly replace them all before people begin to realize they are all defective. Gravis did that same thing with their eliminator aftershock. The first 500 thousand of them were defective so they would replace them without the need to send the old ones back, hoping people wouldn't notice the trend. It didn't work.

A frien of mine had a screwed PS2 (he HAD it until it was stolen. God only knows why anyone would actually steal the piece of junk). One day the CD just wouldn't open. And he had a rental game in it.

If you still have the warranty (opening the top shell of the ps2 shouldnt void it as the void sticker is only connected to the bottom half, if i remember correctly) i would deffinitly phone sony, its what i did when i had disc read error(bastards then tried to charge me £75 to have it fixed cos i was 1 month out of warranty)

The problem i had doesnt sound the same as yours, if the cd tray is having problems moving its likly its come off its rails or something along those lines. If sony wont fix it (possibly a risk as i presume hacking it to play cd-r games is illegal) then your best bet is to go inside and try and see if anything is noticably loose.
