So yeah, I finally got a new PC, got a 64-bit operating system and tried out Beta 3.
I was definitely pleased by the performance of Melee (obviously though, a frame-limiter is going to make it much more playable - I realise it's in the works) and Paper Mario, so kudos for that.
Problem is, the rest of the games I tried gave me various problems. There were quite a few, and it almost always seems to be the issue of a black screen. Here's a breakdown:
Animal Crossing: I see the Nintendo logo, and then it stays on a black screen, while the FPS jumps about randomly.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: After selecting New Game > Single player, it black screens.
Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life: After the company logos, it black screens. The framerate stands still also, so I assume it freezes too.
Paper Mario - The Thousand Year Door: Plays at a really good speed, and I was looking forward to playing through this. However, I assume a known issue is the strange animation of NPCs. Every so often they freeze in place for a while and then continue moving. A little irritating, and sometimes makes cutscenes unbearably long (though I can live with it).
And the major problem is once you have spoken to the professor about the crystal stars, he goes outside to unlock the fence, except nothing happens. He just stands there, and the cutscene carries on forever.
The Legend Of Zelda: The Four Swords Adventures: After enduring the huge amount of text at the start of the game (in the intro sequence), it goes into the game. Everything displays fine except character models, which are very strange (mixed bits of different things), and the controls stop responding.
Viewtiful Joe (1): Except for sound, the FMV at the start plays fine. Once it seems to have finished, it goes to another black screen.
My system specs are:
ATI Radeon HD 3870 512MB
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ 2.7 GHz
2048MB RAM (not sure what type)
ASUS M3A
Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 x64
Any help on this issue would be great, as most/all of those games are listed as at least in-game. If you need any more input on my end, don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks much in advance.
