all of these companies feed each other. nvidia or ati make a new more powerful graphics accelerator then the game companies make games that push even the newest hardware to its limits (unnecessarily) until the game runs so poorly ,even on the new hardware ,that new graphics cards are made that can handle these games and so on. And of course the cpu has to be faster to so intel and amd can get in on the act.

To be honest, you're probably right, I've often thought about it like that. Both major graphics companies often seal deals with publishers and/or developers, and presumably one of the stipulations of these deals is that the games in question must be extremely graphically intense.

If everyone actually took TIME to get to grips with the new technology they were dealing with and fully exploit it, we wouldn't have to buy graphics cards for 3-4 years.

Alas...

Anyway, looks like nvidia are destroying ati on the old poll here. Whether or not that's representative (some board mainstays and mods haven't voted, and number one ati fan-girl tag has steared clear, too...), or not, I'm not sure.

I wasn't steering clear, per se... I haven't had time to visit the forum since the 17th. ^^;

Anyway, I've cast my vote, and shall add no further words to this topic beyond this post.

I haven't voted because I don't see my option anywhere.

I've said it before and will say it again. SCREW THOSE GAMES! The idiots who put the requirements too high will have to suffer the consequences that less people will buy the games. Idiots. Truly.

I've never really seen this myself. In fact, I always see games developers list the hardware requirements well below what they should realistically be. They really don't care about how much they help another company earn money, they only care about their own bottom line.

It used to be that the software guys would push the hardware developers to produce more advanced stuff, and the hardware guys weren't able to keep up. The hardware guys didn't really have to worry though, because the more advanced their gear is, the more people will spend money on it. Such never was the case for software.

Now the hardware technologies are years ahead of the software, and they are trying to push the software guys to produce more complex graphics. The software guys don't really like doing this, because development costs increase, and when they list higher system requirements, less people will buy their software.

I just hope you didn't get your info to base your decision from HellBinder :icecream: :happy:

Hell if this was a vote for emulation merits of graphics card, it'd be 3dfx and the voodoo series all the way.

Ahhhh my banshee and UltraHLE... a match made in heaven a few years ago... ahhhh....

BUT this is reality, and I'd like to see your voodoo 2 kick the pixels around with speed on ut2004 and its ilk.
