yeah, i was recommended those and i was about to order the 1gb kit. however, i only have $160ish to spend on memory so i can't order those. i need the 1gb for ram since i plan on getting more into 3d work and stuff, so should i just buy one 512mb stick and the other later?
thanks and later

edit:
i'm also getting the newcastle core proc. since i'm strapped for $$. all in all, i have $900 to spend on a new pc. half of that is taken out by the vid card and cpu :plain:

Believe me, that is a really big jump. You should notice really nice improvements. Chankast seems to run faster on Athlon systems to boot. I get 60+ FPS in Soul Caliber in most stages with just a 3200+, and a 3800+ is much, much faster.

Jesus I must be doing something wrong, I've also got an Athlon 3200+ and I get frame rates of just over 30 for Soul Caliber in-game. I thought this was pretty good as well, a little slow but playable, just about.

30fps is low for an Athlon 3200+, although certain stages in the game are indeed slower and run about 30fps, while others are far too fast running at 70fps. Make sure you have the latest motherboard and graphics drivers to be sure, since you should be getting around an average of 50-60fps with that CPU overall.

I've got the 4.12 Catalyst drivers which seem the best for a Radeon 9800 Pro but I didn't realise you had to update motherboard drivers as well. I'll look into it.

I think from the looks of it you've got top notch specs whereas I have something of a budget system. Still that shouldn't really account for the massive performance difference.

thanks for the link! how much better are the pdp memory set over those geil? if they're really worth the extra $30 i'll just get em.

PDP's RAM has much lower latencies and overclock a helluva lot better. If you have the extra cash - get the PDP. :)
