Last night I opened a new thread with the title
"How do I use my existing GC discs with dolphin"
I asked the following question
"Hi Folks,
My boys have a gamecube which is plugged in to our TV. Can I play my legitimately bought GC games on the PC using Dolphin.
Cheers,
Micker."
I had a few reply's which repeatedly went along the lines of " read the rules" after which the thread was closed.
I admit that I didn't read the rules before posting. However, if (in the rules) it's stated that you cannot play legally bought gamecube games on this emulator then surely the emulator is an attemp to coerce possibly unsuspecting members of the public into breaking copyright laws.
I'm not even talking about downloading copies of games I already own or ripping my existing legal games. I ,naively, thought that it may be possible to put an already owned, legitimately purchased game in my PC's dvd drive and play it using this emulator.
As for the members who gave me the "read the rules" and "yeah read the rules" malarky. Well I have (now) read the rules and there was nothing in my original post which contravened them. Maybe these people should not judge everyone by their own low standards.
As for this thread, please feel free to respond but don't worry. I won't be back.
Cheers,
Mick.

Anyone who knows just a little bit about Nintendo's discs would know they are incompatible with PC DVD drives - Nintendo intended it this way as an antipiracy measure. The Sony PSX and PS2 on the otherhand have a ton of piracy since the discs are so easily copied.

In response to your other thread 'Can I play my legitimately bought GC games on the PC using Dolphin' - the answer is unlikely, as Dolphin is an experimental emulator that has low compatibility and speed (which likely won't change for several years).

The rules should imply that you must rip your own games for use with this emulator, not commit piracy.

The rules state that:

"Q: How do I use my legally owned GC discs?
A: You can't, these GC discs aren't compatible with your DVD drive. There won't be support for it in future.
"

Yet obviously people still use them. So you should make the connection that the following rule applies to that:

"DO NOT Ask how to rip GC-iso's (google is your friend)"

Now copyright and fair use laws are different from country to country and this is a worldwide public forum. So it's not discusses here. It may or may not be legal for you to rip your game depending on where you live. It's also not the aim of this forum to be a support base for people wishing to rip their games.

The barcode which prevents your dvd drive from reading the game is actually part of the DVD standard. However, consumer drives don't adhere to this part of the standard because there are no real applications (besides the gamecube) where the barcode is used. I'm not going to go into the details of how dvds are read and the gamecube format. But it's cheaper for PC DVD manufacturers to not include the ability to read barcodes.

Yes, people repeatedly told you to read the rules thread. It's clearly labelled and you should have read it. Your question regarding the use of your legal disc should not have even been asked. It's asked ALL the time. And you're just another troll who passes through and doesn't bother to read the rules. You want your problem solved right here right now and you won't even bother to search for the answer. Don't expect people to be nice when you don't respect their rules and are too lazy to help yourself.

Now, as a prime example, this exact same question was asked on dec 26 right here:

http://www.emutalk.net/dolphin/32252-need-help.html

So stop whinging and obey the law round here.

MODS: This guy sounds suspiciously like Tild. Is he the same person asking the same question with a different account?
