Anyone play Xenosaga?

I've recently finished FFX, and I'm looking to sink my teeth into something new and different. Breath of Fire and Wild Arms 3 have also caught my attention, but I'm a sucker for a big, enthralling story. I've read numerous reviews (all positive) and it's often compared to a big anime film, but I hate anime. Any chance this is the anime for people who don't like anime? I don't mind the art and character design of anime, it's something about the dialogue. It all sounds like Pokemon to me, and I really hate Pokemon.

Pah. Don't care for any of the series shown late-nights on Cartoon Network (Cowboy Bebop, etc.). Watched Akira and hated it.

Are those examples of crap anime, as you say? I'm willing to give anime a chance to redeem itself, but what I've seen thus far simply doesn't appeal to me.

Fuck Cowboy Beebop, Trigun etc. Crappy comedy shows. Get some real anime: Serial Experiments Lain, Juuni Kokki, Wolf's Rain. Check out Ghost in the Shell if you haven't already, it's a serious, intelligent film and one of my personal favourites.

OT: Xenogears is supposed to be fantastic. I've got it waiting for me to play, just need to find the time...

Trigun, yeah I agree, it's sweet when it's serious, but the comedy crap just kills it

in general, you get a better experience if you watch the original japanese version with english subtitles. the english voice actors just kill it, in my opinion.

You can get Xenosaga now as a PS2 Greatest Hits title for $20.

I'ts a semi-remake/prelude/other weird shit to XenoGears, since the team behind XenoGears were kinda force from Square, they went to Namco, and started over.

I picked it up the other day (Episode 2 of the series is out now or will be shortly), but haven't popped it in yet.

Hej hej, how come no one mentioned Ninja Scroll? Thats a great anime and btw I would recommend watching it in english. I like the english speakers, they make the movies somehow more... dramatic.

2) I can't just sit here while you say english is GOOD?! How you lost your mind?! Dubbing is the most evil thing one can do to a movie! Subtitles are required if you don't understand the language, but NEVER EVER dub (okay, so there are a few exceptions where the dubbing has been better, but that's like 1% or less).

Damn straight. And anyway, I never understood why Ninja Scroll was so well known. It's not that good. The animation is dated, and the storyline doesn't make up for it.

Sorry guys, I just love ninja scroll. And since I agree that the original lang normally is the better option I still like the english dubs, especially since I dont speak japanese. I just love those dramatic english voices.

I more or less refuse to watch dubs these days. They make the whole anime thing seem like a joke. Plus the voice acting is, without fail, terrible...

Dub is awful
If you can't understand the language which they speak, then subbing is a great alternative.
