Agreed, but they can get even more expensive than automatic ones believe it or not. Mainly because everyone thinks the same way you do. I actually know someone who owns an early model Hasselblad. He payed a cool fortune for it. Even for my automatic Rebel I always use manual mode. But it is nice to have the automatic to fall back on. The rebel can "suggest" a focus even when not in automatic mode. Its up to you if you listen to it, but basically it has a green and red light in the viewfinder and when the shot is in focus it turns green. The only problem is for creative photographers who dont center their shot, it doesnt always work. If the subject is out the left or right, the camera trys to fix on something in the center of the background and says its out of focus. Technology is great but not near as good as human flexibility.
