A7N8X-E Being A TOTAL BITCH, Refuses to Boot

i hope i am not a victim of the demonized ASUS dead bios syndrome, as a matter of fact, i hope i am, so i can tell my dad it brokeded and i can get an Athlon 64 System :)
i have tried everything on this bitch, i set it to the prime95 blend torture test at midnight, and went to bed, when i woke up at 6, i checked my pc, and it was fully functional, when i got home at 4 PM, i looked at my pc, the hard drive light was solid, and nothing was responding, so i held the off switch, then turned it back on. same thing happened. so what, the things refusing to boot, AGAIN, just a routine CMOS clear should do the trick. wrong, i cleared it 6 times and nothings happening, i hope my newegg warranty isn't out if my dad refuses to get me an A64 :bye3:

Meh...
cbeck to see if everything is plugged in all the way and correctly. If you think everything is, just unplug everything, clean off any dust you see, and replug everything in and make sure it's all the way in and in correctly. Worked for my older bro when he had a similar problem, and he tried everything you did. I just told him to do that, and his system is back and running.

ok, my CPU, video card, and ram sticks have been officially ruled out as convicts here. now i need to know, should i RMA this board to newegg, or rma the board, sell the replacement, and buy something else (heh, then i can sell a working one rather than a broken one :)) i really love this board, and if need to replace it arises, i want a good NF2 mobo compatible with my heatsink
EDIT: i also tried booting with no CPU, in order to force this motherboard to beep like there's no tomorrow, but that didn't do anything either

It may be a CPU, a memory or an AGP/ PCI card problem (or maybe another problem). The best option is to check if your motherboad works on an other Athlon based system. If it works the problem is somewhere else, if not...

I heard something about hot-flashing the bios. If you know someone with the same board, then go google and find out about it.

Actually, a mobo can break sometime, defective products, it can happen to everyone, it's not because it's an Asus mobo, neither because it's an A7N8X-E (I have an A7N8X-E Deluxe). Yes, it could be a dead bios, or it could be ANY chips on the mobo. Also, did you tried the rest of your parts (ram/cpu, main things to boot a PC) on another PC? or tried another CPU or other RAM on your? if not, should be something wring with the mobo, yeah. If you still have you warranty, better resend it to newegg , they will test it, and if really defective, they will send you a new one. but if not defective, if it you CPU or your RAM. It's the best way to test. good luck, the A7N8X-E is really a great mobo, don't get another one ;)

Knuckles I've read what he said before but some mainboards refuse to boot (or have other problems) with specific hardware parts/combinations. I remember a friend of mine having a similar problem with a QDI mobo. He tested the mobo with other hardware parts and it worked and after that his mobo worked with his hardware parts too! Weird...
Anyway, we both agree that sheik124 should test his mobo with other hardware parts to see if it works.

well, i tried my parts in a different mobo and they worked fine, and i highly doubt that its my hardware combo cause its been goin for 2 months plus now, and i have the same vid card as you :) also i tried booting with nothing, or just cpu, just ram, just vid in order to force beeps like hell or to make bitching betty (the post reporter :)) yap, but nothing happened. it had been giving me probs like this about 2 weeks into use, and the odd thing is it has PCB Revision 1.01, which is supposed to signify a normal A7N8X Deluxe, despite the labeling, while the E's, which used PCB 2.00 have a newer northbridge that better supports 400 FSB (what i was running it at)
i didn't replace it with a different mobo though, getting a new one, just got back from PakMail, sent it back UPS ground, RMA is free FedEx Express (gotta love newegg)
by the way knuckles, i found out i could get a hold of a Voodoo 3 16 MB for free, as long as i can supply a different working video card (hehe gonna give em this piece of crap) what do you think i should do, would a voodoo3 PCI 16MB be a step up from 2xVoodoo2 SLI??

well, better a Voodoo3 since it supports some HWFB effects on glide64 and uses and any resolution, 2xvoodoo2 in SLI doesn't support any HWFB, and max res is 1024X768 with 2X 12MB cards (for 24MB) but you can plug the Voodoo2 with your current video card without having to switch monitor on the back.

it's your choice.

The HDD LED staying lit likely is a telltale sign of a HDD failure or an IDE problem.

I would try another HDD.

I had the problem with the HDD LED stay lit and the PC failing to POST before because of an IDE cable connection problem, but that was when cold booting the PC. If the PC lock up crashes with the HDD LED staying lit, then after you hard reboot, the motherboard fails to POST, gives you a drive not ready error message or a HDD controller failure error message, there's a high likelyhood the HDD failed.

If still no change with another HDD, you probably are a victim of the dreaded BIOS corruption syndrome.

Erm, a PC will boot without a hard drive being connected, and as he stated before, he's tried that.

:baaa:

It didn't look like sheik124 mentioned about trying another HDD and I do know that a motherboard can POST with no HDDs attached to the IDE interface connectors. Plugging in a faulty HDD can cause the motherboard to fail to POST.
