A small plugin suggestion...

Why not just make the plugins open source? Heck, for all we know, the next Pete Bernert(famous for his mindblowing PS1 graphics plugins) may be lurking around the net somewhere.

I don't think it will be a good idea. Very few people know the architecture of the gamecube therfore making them open source may be not a good idea

That's a very... interesting post. What harm does open sourcing an plugin do? It's up to the author if they want to make it open source, but doing so doesn't do any harm.

I don't really see how people not knowing the gamecube has anything to do with open sourcing plugins. I mean sure lets say, worst case nobody at all understands it or can manage anything with it. No harms been done. The authors don't have to pay any attention to people messing with the code. All it means is there won't be any 3rd party plugins. Even if someone does manage to create one that is better it wouldn't even mean they'd have to use it on this site. It would just be something people could go get themselves if they wanted it.

I can't see them releasing the source..... unlikely any good would come of it!

What happened when PJ64 1.4 source was released (other than PJ64k)? With gcube being opensource? Nothing...

Dolwin is opensource, do you see people making 3rd party plugins for it? No......

Something has happened with gcube being opened sourced. Some of its features have been ported to dolphin. Although it hasn't been released since that has happened. Plus emulation is a tough thing, so if you're sitting out there looking for some source to work on you're going to want to work with the best source you can get your hands on. Which everyone knows is dolphin, so it's possible some people are waiting on dolphin, which has been promising to go opened source off an on for well over a year now.

Of course it's all irrelavent to me as I don't see any downside to releasing source. Worst case is nothing happens with the source (which I admit is rather likely). But who cares if nothing happens, all that is lost is the 5 mins it would take to compress and post the source code.

Of course for the purposes of this topic they were refering to releasing the source for the plugins, not the emulator. Plugins have a little more chance of getting people working on them since they deal with a certain area and you don't have to worry so much about everything else.
