3dfx or Nvidia?

I have a Geforce FX 5200 PCI (I know.. the shame of having such a crappy card). I also have a 2.8Ghz Celery in my system wtih 512megs of DDR ram.

My question is, if I replaced the 5200 with a Voodoo 5 pci, would n64 games work better or worse? (ie. smoother, faster, etc).

Provided you use the Glide64 plugin with your Voodoo, it would be faster and more accurate because Glide64 is currently the best graphics plugin. Other plugins are bound to catch Glide64 though, it's just a matter of time. The other N64 plugins won't run very well though, if at all. Replacing your current card with a Voodoo would strongly limit what PC games you can play, so be careful with the descision.

It's just gonna be an Emu box, so as long as I can run MAME everything is peachy. :)

That Damn Good
Well if it's just for emulators, then you should be alright. The only problem I could think of is another plugin being created that don't support voodoo cards.

The decent one
You said emubox? If you don't want to emulate games newer than N64 games I'd recommend to replace your Geforce with Voodoo 5, because this is one of the best cards for this generation and older, but if you want to play Gamecube or PS2 games with it, you may experience problems because of the lack of blending modes with the Voodoo 5 (pixel shaders etc.).
