2D issues in plugins

Hey. I know that I'm probably the only one that finds this as an issue, but why do all 2D objects appear strangely. I mean, take the n64 Zelda games for example on the Link Equip screen. If smoothing is turned off then Link looks all jagged and strange, and if you turn smoothing on, he looks like a blur. Also, the 2D ojects seem to have "lines" or slight differences in alignment in parts that make some thing inconsistant. Look, what I'm trying to get at is that more time needs to be spent on 2D quality now that 3D objects are as good as they can be. Maybe some of you don't understand what I'm talking about, but at least one of you have to agree. Sigh.....nevermind.

Uhmmm its not that easy to improve the 2D stuff anymore than they can when using FSAA, 2xSAI filters, etc.. the textures are really low res on the n64, its just how it is, you cant do much to it apart from using filters and such at the moment, unless there was a way to retexture it all, but that'd have to be external from all the roms and they'd all have different ways of doing thiings so no, its not gonna happen anytime soon :p

well, that video card is one thing (i was about to tell you to turn on FSAA and AF, but, i don't know if a GeForce2MX can do that, im pretty sure it has some low FSAA abilities, using jabo's video plugin you don't even have to force it in the driver, it has settings for it)

Well, I don't even know what those features are, so it's probably my video card. I'm sorry. I should've checked everything out before posting another nonsense thread. It's just that I didn't know that your card made much difference with 2D objects

i have a geforcefx5200 and i still have the ugly 2d. its never gonna get fixed it would probably too messy to try to fix that and maintain proper 3d.

but the difference from computer's and n64's subscreen link is DRASTIC. in n64 link looks almost like its made from polygons, then on the computer its horribly pixelated. any filters just make it more blurry.

The Hardware framebuffers of glN64(), Glide64 and Direct64 all fix that Link picture making it very sharp.

Direct64 and Rice's Video's hq2x/4x does a good job in smoothing the 2D without blurring.

Yes, a GeForce2 MX can do 4xFSAA and 2xANISO, albeit with a huge performance hit.

Jessman: FSAA, or Full Scene Anti-Aliasing is a technique which blends pixels to their closest neighbor, causing for less "jaggies" or jagged edges of polygons. Anisotropic Filtering, or Aniso for short, is a technique which calculates the shape of an object and maps it onto the required texture. The result is much less blurriness on distant textures. Your GF2 MX can do 2 sample aniso, which won't help *much* but will definetely do something. These features can be enabled via your nVidia control panel, or you can use RivaTuner.

Here's a shot of the Equipment Subscreen GLn64 with HW Framebuffer and 2xSaI @ 4xS FSAA and 8xANISO. :)

You need a new videocard young grasshopper. ;) I'm running a GF4 Ti4400 on a P3 Tualatin @ 1.8GHz and it runs beautifully. With frame limit off I'm hitting over 140FPS with all these options on. :)

I'll be Back!
Looks pretty good on my geforce 4 440 MX as well and plays full speed, using glN64 + pj64 doesnt look right on 1964 for me , actually its the first time i tried it cause i really didnt care before , as long as i could play . I have beat the game like 40 times , its still a fun game but i drift back to overdrive every time i pick a n64 back up and thats 1964 the one i use mostly. thanks Cooliscool you are the master of zelda.

yeah. i realized gln did hardware framebuffer, and it works awesomely well, but it slows down really badly when doing full screen resolution.

im using direct64 for zelda emualtion and the gfx are like 99% emulated :) everything works so if youve got ps2.0 direct64 would proabaly be the best for zelda atleast i think
only thing ive noticed bad with it and zelda is when much motionblur is going on the blur gets kind of wierd (on the moon under the tree)
