2 saves... pj and pj2

I regularly use the Quick Save option (F5), but it often happens that 2 states are saved; the extension of one is .pj and the other is .pj2 -- When I use the Quick Load option (F7), I don't know which of them is loaded; probably the .pj -- Anyway, is there a way to disable this? I just need one file to be overwritten when I quick save. i.e. .pj is enough.

Why does it save another one as .pj2? It's confusing to me.

You have different slots to save in. Default and 1 to 9 if I remember right. The extension pj2 means you saved in slot 2. See the manual for more help on this. You can select a slot in the system menu and with the number keys (1 to 9).
