1964 Sound Problems - Cutting Out

Morning / Afternoon / Evening All (or anyone who reads this!)

I've had few problems with the 1964 plugin and am quite happy with it so far bar one problem. The sound seems to emulate pretty well and I don't have any lagging issues but it seems to randomly cut out which can be bloody annoying sometimes. All I get after that is a repeating sound from when it last cut out. I found I have to restart 1964 to get sound back. I've also noticed that if I save a state the repeating sound changes to what should of been playing when the save was made. At the moment I am using:

Schibo's 1.2 UltraHLE Sound plugin with a SB Live! (standard)

With this plugin I don't seem to have any options to play around with. Clicking on the menu item doesn't do anything!!

I have tried Zilmars and Jabo's plugins but I don't get ANY sound if I try those.

I am fairly sure this is a problem with my configuration as I can't seem to find any threads with a similar problem. I must admit occasionly the sound lasts for ages (until I get bored...).

Can anyone help? If you need more info let me know and I'll let you have it!

Cheers!

i do also....Switching between Azimer's and schibo's seems to work alright for me...i guess it depends on the game maybe? i don't think its your soundblaster...I'm using onboard sound :(...If that doesnt work try and update your sound drivers maybe? sorry its not much help but there's a couple things to try...

 Ok - cheers for the response BUT:

 I've tried switching plugins and i get the same problem - no sound with anything but schibos.

 With P64 I can't seem to get Rices Plugin working which leads to much more graphical glitchs!

 Anything else I can try!

Irrelevant Insight
That would suggest that you don't have rsp.dll in your plugin directory.

I'm not trying to sound pro here, just that I had the same problem.

Try downloading the pj64 service pack, then copy the rsp over into 1964 plugin directory.

I warn you though, Azimer's only works when you don't load from save files, and Jabo's for me is delayed by about 1 second, and that's with an Audigy 2 ZS for christ's sakes...

As for Rice's Daedelius mod plugin, mine works very badly. And again, that's with a 5900 Ultra graphics card.

Goes to show hardware isn't everything, I guess.

:bouncy: Ahh I see. I'll give that a shot. I found this post which is quite useful:

HOW TO get the best sound on slow computers and When using the RSP plugin

 It pretty much says the same thing but it also mentions how to get better performance. Maybe it'll help you?

 With regards to Rice's plugin perhaps you might want to have a look at some of the 'Sticky' threads here. Theres lots of hints on how to improve video performance. I use a Geforce 4 and have had no problems with Rice's. It seems to provide the least amount of graphical glitches.

 Cheers lads for the info!

yeah I tired copying and pasting the rsp.dll plugin from the pj64 1.5.1 folder to the 1964 folder. It seems the one included in 1964 0.99 is an older version of the rsp. So far I haven't had the sound cutting out problem. Though the game seemed to have freezed at one point.

EDIT:

opps spoke to soon the sound cut out again... using jabo audio + rsp plugin.

To anyone that doesn't have this problem try playing goemons great adventure. In fact if I can ill up load a save stat with the sound cut out. It seems to happen when you load from a save state. I think this use to happen in the older versions pj64 also.

At the moment I am using Jabo's and the RSP plugin. The sound is pretty good although a little 'choppy' is thats the right word.

I am also having the problem with save states. I can save although it seems a little dodgy but I can't load. I just get a black screen ? Any ideas? This only started when using the RSP plugin + Jabo's. Is it a problem with Jabo's or the RSP ?

Okey doke

Specs
  • OS: Windows 2000 + SP 2 (i think!)
  • Processor: AMD Athlon 2000
  • RAM: 256mb
  • Video: Nvideo Geforce 4 TI 4200
  • Sound: Sound Blaster Live!
I think thats most of it bar the peripherals. I must admit that almost all the games I have tried need the Speed Limiter to run at normal pace. There are a few minor problems which I have mentioned here!

sound blaster live have some known problems with various games (C&C Generals for example), you need to upgrade your drivers or test a version that works for you............

Ok. I've tried Jabo's and found that (even with game sync on) the sound occasionally cuts out so it would seem to just be a Sound Blaster problem as suggested.

Unfortunatly I have the latest drivers and am still experiencing this problem. I could uninstall and install an earlier version but I'm far to lazy for that.

Thanks for the help lads but I think this is going to be one of those problems thats going to have to wait for an updated Plug in. Anyone know who I should mention this to ?

I think its a problem with 1964 cause no matter what audio plugin I use I get that problem. Like I said before I had a problem like that with the older versions of pj64 till it was fixed somehow. I happens after you load a save stat or if you are using another window while 1964 is on. Like if am running 1964 now and am typing this massage the sound will cut out after a little while.

I would suggest that you try to ->uninstall<- your current live's drivers, I didn't read anywhere if you're using the latest ones, if I missed that, sorry.

Then install the ones that come with the setup cd (in case you have one) or try to get older drivers.

Ones last thing that comes to mind is that there could be some sort of hd activity and that's causing the sound lag, lives have so pretty well documented problems related to it's pci support (or lack thereof).

try to check that and even if not, try to update your motherboard drivers to the latest revision.

hope it helps.
