I am having a little problem with the 16 bit subsystem on winxp, the thing is that the cpu usage always get to 100% with DOS applications, i was told that the wowexec.exe is the dos "emulator" for win xp and at most cases ppl kill it´s task for performance, however i need the DOS apps running and i need to do other things with the machine as well, do any of you know any workarounds or patches to be applied at winxp to enhance wowexec.exe´s performance?

Never had this problem but if it is indeed a DOS application - dosbox? You can throttle the priority and such in it and choose various emulation cores that can alter performance as well.

DOSBox is slooooooooooooow like hell, dynarec core is buggy and unstable, with default one it's only possible to run some old games like Dune II or Prehistorik on this config w/o frameskip, and if you need to run something that requires 486 and up and uses DOS extender - you out of luck.
Virtual machine (VirtualPC, VMWare etc.) will be waay faster
You can aslo try QEMU for win32.

Just Another Wacko ;)
You can configure its speed so the resources it uses depend on that. You might also want to use the dynamic core which is quite fast (check the help files for more info). :)

It's recommended to download one of the latest CVS builds after installing the latest version. You can find a recent compiled version here: http://cvscompile.aep-emu.de/

dosbox is not "slow" (it is likely slower in non-dynamic mode than XP's virtualization layer) and the dynamic core is quite stable in the recent releases.
