Serious Lag

Ok a few months ago my project 64 was working just fine, then I updated Vista to SP1 and didn't use the laptop for a month or two and when I tried to play on it again it starts lagging really bad on almost all games. Only gets 30-40 fps.

My system specs:

Windows Vista Home Premium SP1
Mobil Intel 965 Express Chipset Family
Intel Pentium Dual Core 1.60 GHz
32 bit Operating System
1GB RAM

I've tried different plugins like Rice Video and lowered the settings, but nothing. I know I have a bad graphics card but why would it work before and not now?

you have a crappy built in video chip, and Aero is causing pj64 to slowdown because of it.

I know I have some bad stuff, but why would it work before and not now?

Actually I have Aero disabled. Come to think of it, when it was working before Aero was enabled.

Maybe you accidentally changed a setting that slowed down Project64. Maybe your drivers conflicted with SP1 (so update to the latest graphics drivers). Maybe both...

Just updated to the latest graphic drivers and it seemed to help. Starfox works good in game, but outside the game like when your selecting planets it goes slow again.

Goldeneye works better, but still only gets around 40 fps.

I don't think I changed any settings, so do you know what else? This is such crap because Half-Life 2 works perfectly and these N64 games won't work.

Never compare PC game performance and emulation performance. The two aren't the same. Emulating complex console hardware requires a fast computer, mainly in terms of CPU power but others factors (such as bus speeds and graphics hardware performance, and OS requirements) also contribute to the big picture.

Certain games also raise the requirements, with the likes of GoldenEye, Perfect Dark and Conker's Bad Fur Day being good examples. These games rely on the speed of the graphics hardware quite a bit (still isn't so important than the speed of the CPU, but rely on graphics hardware more than "simpler" games). for them to run smoothly. Granted, that Intel chip of yours just might be up to scratch - on an XP machine.
