What's new

Weird sound problem, but...

... that's not the most important.

Hello everyone!
Well, I'm pretty new (completely actually) in the NGC emulation.
And, first of all, I really want to congrats EVERYONE for the fabulous work!
It is just... amazing me!
I remember wanted to try NGC emulation 4 years ago or so, and back then, there was almost nothing!
And look now..! Just incredible.
Champagne for you, you, you and even you there!

I need some of your spotlights. I see there's no tutorial in the front page,
it should be a good idea to make one to help newbies like me.
If I'd new some more about all this I'd love to make one.

So, Dolphin (SVN 258) is making SSMB running like a god on my PC.
Just not the sound..! (aww, not every thing can be perfect).
But I read that SSBM is supposed to run good, even for the sound.
I'll explain what happen, every time a song is supposed to run, it works the 3first seconds, and then, shuts down. But the sounds effects are staying.

Is there something to do about it? (... do you need more informations about how I'm running SSBM?).

Well, that's it. I feel like playing that game again all night like I did 5years ago! :D

Thanks!

Sound emulation is not perfect, yet. Just be patient. Maybe after 5 more years GC emulation will be a bit better ;)

Sound emulation is incomplete and very far from being complete since the DSP/Audio system in the Gamecube is poorly documented. This means most if not all first party Nintendo games lack any sound.

In Smash Bros. Melee's case, it'll start playing music, but then would cut out, however the sound effects are emulated, just not the music.

This is all listed in the stickies as well as other threads on why most games lack sound or have poor sound.

In the newer SVN Revisions, Super Mario Sunshine has sound in the intro movies, Zelda Windwaker has sound in the second intro movie that plays. Paper Mario also has near perfect sound with music in the newer revisions. You must however be using the DSP_HLE plugin.

I do compiles of new dolphin SVN revisions and host them in the link in my sig, however I'll only compile if significant progress is made or something is fixed/improved.

Download the fix by John Peterson over at ngemu. With the combination of his fixed .exe and the HLE plugin, you get close to perfect sound in SSBM.

Roger this, guys.
So it's very normal that the sounds cuts off.
Thanks for the info.

I'll check it out.

:D See you in 5 years then!

Eheh, thanks again.
You won't hear me about the sound again now.

EDIT: And thanks to EmuFan too, I'll try your solution this evening.
Even if it's not working that great, I'm grateful.

Thanks.

EDIT: Use it with an OLDER REVISION. It is slow as hell with the latest. I suggest R179

No way to find the R179 version. Is it still up somewhere?

Just note that this isn't actually a fix, just a workaround. It isn't emulating the sound, only using a player to read the sound/music files and play them at a specific time when they are supposed to play.

However sound emulation is getting a bit better a little at a time. Since they implemented an audio fix for homebrew, mysteriously Super Mario Sunshine has sound in the intro movie and Zelda Windwaker has sound in the secondary intro movie.

I have a feeling they are close to figuring out how to emulate the sound for the Gamecube.

Here you go. I included the .exe with music support (DolphinWx (music).exe). There´s also some saves tossed in there.

Well, you did all the work for me..!
Thanks!

I never said the solution popped up in their head.

It will soon! I'm sure of it, the dolphin team did such an amazing work to here.
It can only get better.

Thanks again for the support!
I can't wait to hear more about Dolphin.

Cheers.
