WTF!!! Mario Kart 64 ROM cannot be patched with Palob's N64 ROM patch properly!!!

Everytime I obtained a USA Mario Kart 64 ROM, it is *ALWAYS*
"Mario Kart 64 U [h1] (cartname)". Even worse, *EVEN* when I
changed the byte order of the Mario Kart 64 ROM to
big endian, *ANY* patching causes GoodN64 to fail
recognizing the Mario Kart 64 ROM and won't rename it!!!

Why???

I had the exact same rom as you but managed to patch it and had the exact same problem. Check that you are not selecting the patch when choosing the rom. Of course I did'nt do that:whistling

I can confirm that the patch works, as I also had the Mario Kart 64 U [h1] (cartname) version, and after patching I got the good dump. I don't think the overdump patches work though, but that's just my experience.

To my knowledge these are also failing:
Automobili Lamborghini (U) [o3]
San Francisco Rush - Extreme Racing (U) [b2]
Super Smash Bros. (E) [b1]

atleast the 2 first are bogus since i checked the patch and it was 0 bytes in size :plain: And the maker doesn't seem to be around anymore.

Hmm.. This might be an interesting thing to code! Should not be too hard either afaics...
Just need some bad roms ;)

Overdumps can be fixed in two seconds by using WinHex (Alt-Z).

Cartname-hacks can be fixed by editing the header in "N64 Rom Renamer."

Paulob's patches should be used on byteswapped ordered ROMs.
