Hey buddies
I'm going to buy a computer, and they offer me one with this specs..

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200 AM2 Box
Memory: 2 X KVR 1GB DDR2-533MHz Non-ECC CL4 DIMM
Hard Drive: WD WD1600AABS 160GB SATA-II 2MB 7200 RPM
Mother Board: ASUS M2N-MX AMD2 S/L/SATA/PCIE (Without Integrated Graphics Controller)
Graphics Controller: NV XFX 8400GS (PVT 86S WAQG) PCI-E 256mb DDR2 TV+DVI

So what do you think?.. The computer will be for my "University assignments" and some gaming..

If it's mainly for university assignments it's more than ok, now for gaming i'd suggest a better video card, still that video card will run any game you want it to if you dont mind downgrading the quality a bit.

mmm, also get faster RAM, 667 will be very good, and 800 will be the top. Also get a bigger hard disk, they are very cheap nowadays even here in Costa Rica. Also that card is low end, I know it has DirectX 10, but it just don't have the performance needed to play Crysis for example, even my 7600GS is better. Nice to see you back Yegosimo

I already have a 120GB external hard drive that's why I didn't ask for a bigger one.. :p

Thanks for your advices I knew you would give me your opinion so I can make some changes to that computer..

?????????????????????????
You need at least 1123,2 GB space!
So that you'll have 267,8305 GB free...
And 855,3695 GB used!
280 GB is just far too little!
...Or at least I think so...

I dont't have that much porn .. haha
All of my documents including some High School assingments are about 95 GB and there are a lot of stuff that I can erase without any trouble.

By the way, do you think the computer that I described is.. how can I say it.. does its parts get along with each other? I mean, is it a good combination?

Who says it's porn?
Considering the computer, I think all that's important has been said already. A little poor graphics card, too small HD, and if you want Vista, get another GB ram.

I have got along fine with 200GB for a couple of years. Just be sure to partition and make full use of the space, clean it up regularly etc. Then when you can afford a larger drive, stick it in.

Yeah, if it weren't for all my video encoding projects, I would still be doing fine with a 40GB hard drive. It just depends on how you intend to use your PC. Of course, now that I've taken up video as a hobby, my 640GB+ of space is barely adequate. Remember back in the day when people thought you could never fill up the massive 80MB hard drives that were hitting the market? :p

lol..

Yeah maybe I'll consider adding some more Gigabytes.. But isn't 2GB of Memory enough to run Vista without problems???

In the other hand, 2 Gb will be enough for Vista IMO

Not for heavy multitasking (well, at least IMO) and things such as using Raxco's defragmenting when doing other things. You may notice some slight hickups. Not to mention that when you do, you'll see it eats more than 2 GB of total memory. Vista is a hungry bastard.

That's weird, I use Perfect Disk without any problems. Be sure to use the latest version, they are always fixing Vista bugs in newer releases AFAIK
