On the second Direct3D test under dxdiag theres this error: http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/garboy19882000/vwp?.dir=/My+Photos&.dnm=dxerror.jpg&.src=ph&.view=t

I'd suggest un-installing those particular drivers (they are beta) and installing something in the 38.xx range.

heres the last one:

By the way...the 40.72 drivers worked on my GF2...do you think its just that these drivers conflict with my new card and not my old one or no?

They shouldn't, but the 40.72 detonators are in beta, meaning that they can do some unpredictable things still.
They do work just fine on my GF4 MX420 though...

so what should i do? should i uninstall the 40.72 drivers and put on the 30.82 ones? how do i uninstall the 40.72 ones?

What's that...?
unistall em like you would unistall any other app...in control panel, add/remove programs. once you've done that, download the last driver release that was beta, go to the nvidia website and see what that is, and just install it. that should fix your problem, i hope.

just because i can now :linux:

Go to the control panel, then Add or Remove programs, then in the list somewhere... it should be "Nvidia Windows 2000/XP display drivers."

You could have a flawd video card try going back and get it replaced for free from where you bought it from. Thats what one of my friends had to do, he was getting that same exact error.

Mmmmm....Beeeeerrrr
i think that your old geforce2 ti is conflicting with your geforce4 ti4200. the computer might still be thinking that the geforce2 ti is still in there but it isn't. check device manager and see if the geforce2 ti is still there. if it is then try to remove the device. if it isn't then see if there are any conflicts with the ti4200.
