is it normal to have 4-6 SVCHOST.exe's running? seems a bit much

Yes perfectly fine, indeed I have 5 running at the moment.

Yeah it's normal, but what the hell is mmjb.exe, because i've got numerous copies of those.

I'd like to recommend Winamp and CDex.

Having too many system tray programs (such as WinAMP agent etc.) can slow certain computers (as they take up RAM, other resources), so I've just got used to not installing these in the first place in most cases.

The SVCHOST files are indeed normal for Win2000/XP and probably other OSs which you cannot (and should not) shut off.
