Star Ocean II save messed up!

Here's the situation with ePSXe; both my brother and I have separate ePSXe directories, he uses his ISOs and I use mine. My brother made a save state in Star Ocean II and he got to a far point in the game (last dungeon). Well, the problem is this, whenever he goes into the menu, the game freezes after five or so seconds. But what I find weird is that this save state on the ePSXe I use, this problem doesn't occur at all! I know there's nothing wrong with mine nor my brother's ePSXe configuration. What the holy freakin' crap is going on!?
