sound problems?

Hi,

I was playing JGR the other day, and the graphics were great. Unforunately, the sound was choppy and grating. I tried to update my drivers, but that lead to a system crash and a $135 repair bill. Is there anything else I could possibly do? Barring that, is there a way I could mute chankast so I could listen to other music while I play?
