Question about using a real cd-drive

The FAQ says:
"Running CDs is not generally recommended, prefer using CD images instead."

Now, I'm wondering if this affects speed in any way? Because I'm using real cd-drives instead of virtual, but if that makes my games slower, I guess I'll have to get a virtual one.

in case some people are using low-speed cd-rom to read game backup disc.
Therefore use cd-image from virtual drive are better.

Chankast itself reads the CDs at low speed. That's why you should use images.

Are iso the prefered fileformat to use with the virtual drive? Does that affect the speed?

The format shouldn't affect speed at all that I know of. I would stick with whatever format the ISO is in like NRG or CDI.
