PS2 to USB adapter or PS2-style gamepad?

What's better? I would prefer an adapter since I like the feel of a real PS2 gamepad but I have heard some people having problems using an adapter especially the Boom brand. In our country, there are several cheap adapters and controllers (roughly $4 -$8 exchange rate)

They seem to be rebranded from Dilong, a Chinese/HK brand.

The problems seem to be limited to N64 controllers. If you'll only be using a PS1 or PS2 pad the Boom adapter should be fine.
