Problem with VBA or my roms

Can any one help, I'm kinda new to emulation. I'm really wanting to find a pokemon ruby that works. I've downloaded tons of different ones but when I unzip them and run them on my VBA they don't turn on, they just stay a blank white screen. Sometimes it says loaded battery but I dont think that has anything to do with this. I'm using 1.8. If this is a classic problem could anyone help?

search the forum for pokemon configuration help, and the best way to get a good ROM is to dump it yourself & check with goodgba or gbarenamer or whatever
