I am not what most people would consider to be a trouble shooter, but i think this issue may have something to do with McAfee auto updating programs. I didn't have this problem until i installed McAfee Quickclean v3, and ended when i uninstalled it. I tried to same thing with McAfee's Virus scan. Same problem until i uninstalled it. I hope this helps all.

I am running a retail version of WinXp Pro, Athalon 1.33Ghz, and 512 Megs ram.

hope there's more detail bout this problem solution :plain:

When you reinstall xp, your anti-virus software won't be properly installed. It won't work properly, in other words. At least not the auto-protection, since it is intregrated into the system.
So that's not really a solution.
