"Platform" means any game where you run around and collect stuff -- the Mario, Rayman, Klonoa, Kirby, Sonic, Banjo Kazooie/Tooie, and Spyro series are all Platform games, so are newer games like Ratchet & Clank. I think they're called "Platform" games because you spend a lot of time jumping from one platform to another.
