Can someone tell me what I can use to remove a background from a photo, so to make it 'transparent' for web uses?

Cheers, gents.

Jpeg's don't support transparency.

Gif’s and PNG’s do but gifs only support 256 colours so the picture would look poor (unless it uses few colours).

So use a PNG, there larger in file size than a Jpeg though.

Did you mean that or did you mean what software can you use?

Jaz, load up the picture in PS, press Q and quickmask the pieces of the picture you want to remove and after you are done, select the piece you want to keep, shrink the selection with 1 pixels and gaussian blur that part with a small number.. maybe add a drop shadow or something...

Cheers Remote. As soon as I've got a copy installed on my PC, I'll be no doubt asking for idiot proof instructions of how to do it. ;)
