Try a GeForce3 Titanium 200, I hear those are at rock bottom prices with the GeForce4s out.

if you have a computer with an intel 81xx, like you said, you can just use jabos d3d7 1.3 and check all the options,

Under the direct draw-advanced options I have checked the use options and disable agp and wide surfaces.

To fix sound you might want to try adjusting the counter factor as it can speed up or slow down games.

This is just a suggestion,

I don't think you absolutely NEED to buy a new video card.
You could save for a faster processor/computer.
However, the Graphics would look better.

Make sure it supports directX 8 and OpenGL
