New to pj64 NEED HELP

Ok im new to pj 64. I understand pretty much everything except this. My friend has pj64 and he uses an xbox 360 controller and it works. Unfortunately when i try to configure mine i cant. I press the button (for instance the left) and then i move the controll stick in that direction. Unfortunatley, the thing next to it doesnt change...can sum1 please help?

Instructions for setting keys:

Choose the N64 control that you wish to set (e.g. the "A" button)
Decide which keyboard key or gamepad button you wish to assign to it. If it's not a keyboard key, make sure you have the correct device selected under "Game Device".

Alas, you have to select your controller under the game device drop-down menu before you can change the controlls.

go to www.mircosoft.com and look for xbox 360 controller in the search box

the 360 control requires the patched Nrage 1.83 plugin

It depends on the drivers. The Microsoft ones will, but others won't.
