IBM HD showing up as 32GB instead of 80 GB

A friend of mine has a problem with a HD. Instead of being 80GB it always shows up as 32GB, on my computer and on another friend of mine's. I have tried both WinXP and Win98 to partition it, but as it shows up as 32GB in bios i don't think it helps. My computer is a little bit old (but should handle disks over 32GB fine mind you) and the other computer we tested on is very new and has a disk over 32GB already...

The "Show as 32GB" setting on the back (which you set with jumpers) are not set, so it isn't that either....any suggestions?

Thanks

If your using auto detect fpr the drive, in the bios, dont. Try setting it all manually based on whats listed on the top of the hard drive, if its set incorrectly by the auto detect, it would be why its not seeing all the space.
