Well friend, i will make some changes to your list:
1) Try buying DDR4000 Ram, it's the most speedy right now
2) The GeForceFX 5600 is a bad card, slower than the GeForce4Ti's, and by this time your best bet should be GeForceFX 5950 or GeForceFX5900 Ultra, because they run almost at 1000mhz

Like hell they run at almost 1GHz. Try something more like almost 500MHz. :\

And a Radeon 9700 Pro or 9800 non-Pro owns all of those choices.

I prey, not pray.
Going with a 64-bit processor may be a bit overkill for the time being...then again, 1235 isn't a bad price.

Drop the neon and other things that you really don't need to use the computer and get a second hard drive instead...

i've never heard of ddr4000, if what you mean is ddr400, pc3200 is just another name for it
is the 5600 a bad card? considering i am getting it for 130 dollars, whats a better card?

this a better card? although it exceeds my price limit ($180)
eVGA e-GeForce FX 5900 SE 128MB DDR AGP 8X w/ CRT, TVO, & DVI

with said limit, what is the best card i can get?

EDIT : hmmm, i wanted to post what i was paying for the video card
PowerColor ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256MB DVI+CRT+TV 8XAGP RETAIL BOX $150
eVGA e-GeForce FX 5900 SE 128MB DDR AGP 8X w/ CRT, TVO, & DVI $205
AOpen Aeolus GeForce FX 5600 256MB DDR AGP8X w/ CRT, TVO, & DVI $128
ATI RADEON 9800 SE 128MB DDR AGI 8X w/ 2xCRT & TVO - OEM $151

now judging by this which card should i get, i posted the URL earlier and deleted it in fear of it being considered spam, could a mod clear it up if it can be considered spam or not?

Sheik... I don't know anything about the benefits of 64-bit, but will 2 gHz be enough to last you a while? Seems a bit low IMO. Or is the 3200+ supposed to be indicative of its true speed, despite the clock cycle rating? (I'm guessing 64 bit = 32 bit * 2 thus 2 * 2.0 gHz = 4gHz)

Yeah the price is insanely low IMO for all that o_O

You'd be surprised what you can get these days... I bought my sys for about 800 including speakers.

your equation is incorrect, in case you don't know, AMD doesn't clcok their processors, they rate them to P4s, in other words, an AMD Athlon XP 2200+ would equal a P4 at 2.2 even though the athlon may clock at 1.8
the athlon 64 3200 would qual a 64-bit P4 at 3.2 (i know they don't exist), and would smoke a normal p4 at 3.2 (TechTV did a benchmark test AMD Athlon XP 3200 vs P4 3.2 with HT on vs P4 3.2 with HT off vs AMD Athlon 64 3200)

TechTV is retarded, always have been always will be. They also fsck'd eary GeForce FX benches that made the FX 5800 Ultra look twice as fast as 9700 Pro.

Anyway, replace the GeForce FX5600 with a Radeon 9500 Pro or 9700 Pro if you can get one within your price range. 9500 Pro = fantastic card.

the site has no 9500's or 9700s so its down to this, based on all the bashing i have heard about pre-5900 gffx cards its down to this
i sacrifice 128 less mb of video ram to have a 9800 or i sacrifice some speed and junk for 128 more mb of video ram and a 9600
EDIT: or i could sacrifce 50 of my dad's hard-earned dollars for a 5900

I did some reading on 64-bit processing. Most sources claim at least a year until we begin to see the benefits in games and OSes, although the change is inevitable. With that in mind, it seems more prudent to me if you were to get a fast Athlon* for half the price and spend the remainder on a better video card.

(EDIT: Foot in mouth syndrome.)

*AMD Athlon 3000 400 FSB for 210 vs. Athlon 64 3200 for 400
Both prices from Newegg.com

Yes, that would be senisble. The 64-bit processors are too expensive atm. The athlon xp will do just fine!
Besides that...does the motherboard support 1 gb stick of ram? Or are you buying two of them, 512 mb?

dual channel equals 2 512mb sticks
but the thing is, if i buy a pc now, my dad won't buy one for the next i dunno, 3 years!!

the gffx 5700 ultra is a great price/performance card..
but after hearing all that bad stuff about the gffx cards, i dun think i want one anymore
i asked a knowledgable friend of mine if it made a diff having 256 or 128 mb of video ram, he said it was like 5%
so here is my question to you guys, could someone arrange these in order from best to worst

GeForceFX 5600 (256 MB)
GeForceFX 5900 (128 MB)
Radeon 9800 SE (128 MB)
Radeon 9600 (256 MB)
Radeon 9600 Pro EZ version (128 MB)
Radeon 9600 Pro (128 MB)
Radeon 9600 Pro (256 MB)

More video ram would matter in the future, though ;)
Besides...that rig will last for a year at least before you need to upgrade it. But who knows what comes after a year?

The DX9 cards ordered in rough PC game performance:

[Radeon: Great with heavy shaders in new PC games]
[nVidia: Great for emulation and older games]

The High end:

=Radeon 9800 XT (256MB)
=GeForceFX 5950 Ultra (256MB)

Then...

=Radeon 9800 Pro (128MB)
=GeForceFX 5900 Ultra (128MB)

Then...

Radeon 9700 Pro (128MB)

Then... The mainstream

GeForceFX 5700 Ultra (128MB)

Then...

=Radeon 9500 Pro (128MB)
=Radeon 9600 Pro (256 MB)
=GeForceFX 5600 Ultra (128MB)
=Radeon 9600 Pro (128 MB)

Then...

=GeForceFX 5600 (256 MB)
=Radeon 9600 (256 MB)

Then...The budget cards

=GeForceFX 5200 (128MB)
=Radeon 9200 (256MB)

SE/EZ other models I think perform worse than their Pro conterparts, so avoid unless you are soft-modding. Radeon and nVidia in my eyes are equally good, I just choose nVidia for my old games and emulation. Go to a benchmark site and you can check it out for yourself.
