Donkey Kong 64 Controller Problems

My ROM seems to not pick up the controller setup I used for my keyboard. I turned of the "controller is plugged in" box, as I am on a keyboard. Despite this, my ROM continues to tell me "NO CONTROLLER". Any ideas?

By unchecking the Controller is plugged in box, you disabled the N64 controller, thus the message. Its not refering to a PC joypad at all, but the emulated N64 pad.

Thank you. It's odd, because I had it checked, and it didn't work either way. So I assumed you had to uncheck it.
