1.7 Maximum Resolution

Hi all. Gots me a question. In 1.6, I could play games at 1280x960, but in 1.7, the maximum resolution is 1280x800. Huh? Playing the games at 1280x960 was a real help, since it was exactly double 640x480, which was exactly double 320x240. 2D sprites looked a lot better and required less blurriness to look good.

I was under the impression that N64 either ran in 320x240 or 640x480 natively, so 1280x960 seemed a good bet for better-looking 2D sprites. Or am I wrong? Perhaps they run natively at 320x200 or 640x400? That would make sense given the new maximum resolution of 1280x800.

Anyway, as far as I know this isn't a video card or driver issue; it's gotta be only a software thing.

Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Most people in here never used version 1.7 so I don't think that we could be much help. You should better ask on the 1.7 private forums that are located here: Project64

Anyway, are you sure that your monitor supports resolutions higher than 1280x800? Maybe its a wide screen monitor that supports resolutions only up to 1280x800.

Oh, duh. I forgot there were 1.7 private forums. I'll go ask there.

And yes, I'm sure I can support 1280x960, because that's what I use in 1.6. I support up to 1280x1024.

Thanks!

Jabo's plugins read the Monitor and Driver data to get the max res info,.. some video drivers are causing issues in games though, where the max res will show up in the windows CP but certain games will not read it.

Yeah, I posted on the 1.7 private forums that my desktop resolution has to be actually set at 1280x960 to be able to use it as a resolution in-game. That's bizarre. If I keep my desktop res at 1152x864 like I normally do, 1.7 doesn't even give me the option to use 1280x960 in fullscreen during emulation.
