winamp 3 has to be the worst version of winamp ever released.
It has worse quality sound.
No more plugin support.
Loss of functionality.
What the hell were they thinking?

I actually made that one. MAMEworld has a few KOF2k rips, but I have more.;) In this tread (http://www.ngemu.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17828) at NGemu you can see all of the videogame gifs I and others have made, including the KOF ones (*warning* it's a huge thread). I'll soon have a site up with all the silly little gifs I've made.:)

I ran Winamp 3, but I reverted back to Winamp 2.8, because:
It's as buggy as hell
Slow as hell, and the OTT skin support makes it slower
It's more complicated than before
It's got limited plugin support
It's essentially 'bloatware'

Winamp 3 SUCKS

same with me. extremely slow and unresponsive, and i couldn't multitask with it running like i can do easily with 2.80.

What's wrong with winamp3? It doesn't sound any worse than winamp 2.8. They use the same audio decoder. Winamp3 does support plugins, but they are called compontents now. It doesn't support winamp 2.x plugins, because it was completely rewritten. It does support winamp 2.x skins, these skins load really fast, especially if you have desktop alpha off. Windows 9x users do really need to stay with winamp 2.x though, some of the best features of wa3 come out in win 2000 and xp. The desktop alpha feature is really great... it makes the player very unintrusive at about 10%.
Winamp3 also doesn't install anything to any other directory than the winamp3 one, except for two or three aol icons that take about 2.3 seconds to remove (click+delete key).
If you don't want to use winamp of any version, don't. There are plenty of other players you can use: WMP 6.4 is great. WMP 7,8, and 9 are great, but kind of bloated. Sonique .98 is pretty damn good. Sonique 2 final will be out within probably two years, if you can wait that long. QS player is good. A korean one called Soritong is pretty good. and the last one i can think of, coolamp is small and good.
Oh... and i would suggest the "boom" skin for wa3, it's big and slow loading, but if you like great visuals and animations, get it.
F*** you. F*** you. F*** you. You're cool! F*** you! I'm out!

Those are other good reasons why winamp 3 sucks. The main reason I prefered winamp over any other one is because:
It loads fast. (no need to keep it memory resident to quickly play any music)
It has the best quality sounding mp3 plugins, you can't say the same for any other player.
Winamp 3 is effectively ruined, they realy need to go back to the old code, or if not that then severely reduce the memory overhead of the current code and add backwards compatibility for old plugins.

Yes, i agree alpha. The amount of memory a simple mp3 player like WinAmp 3 uses is insane. It uses way more than IE6 with about 20 windows open! I mean it's totally lame.

I dunno why, but recent trends indicate that the player that you can skin the most is the best player, which explains the sloppiness of winamp3s code. Quite honestly I don't skin anything, I like it to be as simple, strait forward, small, and sleek as it can possibly be.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't stare at the player while its playing music, I just open an MP3 file and it starts playing within that second without hogging any insane ammounts of memory. Why does it suddenly have to be more complicated than that? Now we can't stop with skins, we need to "vusualize" the music and have things like barbie dolls dancing on our screen to the music. Thats why I have always hated realplayer, and why I quit using windows media player in the first place.

woah iq i got that skin and it rocks! and alphawolf, while i mainly use winamp while doing homework etc, i still want the player to look the best it can. As for winamp components that were lost from v2 to 3, I mainly use separate programs for ripping cds etc, because IMHO they're superior and a lot easier to use.bottom line is, if you have a fast enough computer get winamp3 or some decent skins for windows media player if you like. again its all personal preference

guess you didnt read my post the first time, winamp 3 is backward compatible with the old plugins. You just need to do a little searchin' on simple ol'Google. Ive been using the *.spc input plugin for winamp3 for a while now. :)
and since im feeling like a nice guy heres one of the many places where you can give winamp3 old plugin support:

Sukh, ive actually decided to test your mem usage claim. When playing a song, WA3 does use more memory than WA2(i ran both at the same time). However, when its idle, WA2 takes more of the pie. hmm...weird..
