This is some great stuff! Congratulations!
This must have really taken some time, thanks for the hard work.
I really like most of the textures and (what I think is even more important) they are faithful to the original.
Now I'm thinking about dropping my pack, because it's too similar in style

Hm, I looked at the video and I think our packs are different enough to co-exist. Besides I have too much fun to stop now - still a long way to go.
@Mollymut: You don't happen to have psd files with the skybox-mosaics and if yes, would mind to contribute it to my pack? ;) (Don't want to steal your work or be rude - it's just that this work is really annoying me)

You are doing a pack for mario64 too?
@Mollymut: I'm talking 'bout the files. I don't want to use you're skyboxes. But skyboxes are so painful to put together (cause I don't know were which chip belongs), that I thought you might have put them together in a PSD file with the correct file names and that is what would help me alot.

I'm loving this new run of Mario packs. Mode 7, stick with yours. We all have similar concepts, but each pack has a certain flavor that really separates them.
All I know is, with all these new Mario packs, I need to do something to get some attention to mine! I've been pushed to the second page!

That's awesome Mollymutt. Great job on finishing the game.
Aslo, can someone else with a better video card make a video on youtube? It would be awesome to show off the hard work by the folks here at emutalk. The one by the guy before stutters probably due to weak video card.

I just got this pack and tested it a bit. My impressions:
Good:
The pack keeps looks-and-feel of the original. I like it. Today, when everybody trying to create cel-shaded packs, this traditional style is even more appreciated.
Most of textures look good, some are exceptional.
Bad:
This pack is a vivid example of why you should be careful with extra texture magnification. The pack has a lot of 8x and 16x textures. I already explained (http://www.emutalk.net/showpost.php?p=399998&postcount=154), why it is dangerous. Author tried to create very detailed textures. But when such a texture is used for middle and far objects, it looks grainy because texture is much larger than its polygon, and thus it is scaled down, so details on it becomes crumpled. The lower your screen resolution, the higher this bad effect. It looks especially bad in fast motion. I hope, other authors will avoid this mistake in their future work.

I've been looking for a pack like this—one that upscales the textures and smoothens them out to make them hi-res. Usually I just see packs that include googled textures and other textures that are so ugly and don't blend in and completely remove the original feel to the game.
There needs to be more packs like this! :D

Idk what to tell you, it seems that it works fine for everyone else. Why don't you delete the folder, and redownload the pack. You might have had some textures from another pack in the high res folder.
Thanks Terra, it's nice to still get comments about the pack.

bgn, I can't really think of anything else either... I mean you could try checking "try to use smaller textures" under current game options but that usually only works with missing textures in Smash Bros. What kind of video card do you have? And do you have up-to-date drivers for it? Sorry I'm not too much help but imma tryin! :)
Mollymutt, this has to be one of the most valuable packs on this site, along with other sites! Being clean and complete puts it right up there with Djipi's celda pack IMO! :)

As you see here, only some of the textures are showing.
My graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce FX 5700LE.

If you want more attention from people that know a little more about problem solving, you could either post your own thread or you could just search around other threads and see if someone else had the same problem. Persistently nagging Mollymutt isn't going to make him just know the answer all of a sudden. Make sure your video drivers are UPDATED also...
Here's the link to the up-to-date drivers for your card! :bouncy:

I know I'm not a mod, nor anything close, but I think it's time you open up your own thread. This has taken up way too much room on Mollymutt's thread which should be used to comment on the pack. Your problem obviously has nothing to do with the pack and you will probably get better help if you open up your own thread. You could also PM Mudlord, he knows a lot about this stuff since he's been working out bugs in his releases. He might even appreciate it :)
Good Luck!

He is bumping the thread of his own pack, which he worked so hard on, so it gets more attention, thus resulting in more people downloading it, thus (again) making his work worthwhile.

I get annoyed by the way you can't search back more than a couple of pages of threads in this forum, so you have to search for obscure pages.

I've been thinking we need a sticky just for 100% finished packs.
A place where the artist can write a short post with an overview of the work, a pic or two, a link for the download, and a link to their main thread for the pack and discussion.
I think it might encourage more 100% finished packs as well!
Thoughts?

I was thinking the same thing. It might encourage people to do other games than the same two or three that always get redone to death.

Re-uploaded to my hosting site, it's more convenient to download than from Megaupload... I also removed the Thumbs.db from the archive and recompressed it.

I have dumb question since I've yet to really use a texture pack, Is this only for 1964 or are there other emulators using the same now? Specifically anything on OSX ?
I know I could just try it but the board wants me to post, it misses me. :)
Mollymutt
November 5th, 2010, 22:51
You can also use PJ64. I'm not sure if there are any emus that work with OSX.

You know, that we have a complete sub-board for tutrials to load high res textures and other questions, don't you? It's located here (http://www.emutalk.net/forums/130-Tutorials-Questions-and-General-Talk).
I'll quote one of the uncountable tutorials there:
3. Loading high resolution textures
a. If LOAD option is enabled, the plugin will try to load it when corresponding texture is used
in the game.
b. LOAD option can be enabled/disabled during the game play
c. All high resolution textures must be placed under folder:
"[your_emulator_main_folder]\plugin\hires_texture\[current game name]\"
d. [current game name] must match the N64 game internal name
e. Under the [current game name] folder, subfolders can be created and textures can be placed
into the subfolders. The plugin will search all the subfolders recursively. Subfolders can help
to manage all the textures.
f. File files and format:
In general, high resolution files to be loaded must follow the same filenames as dumpped.
- Color indexed textures must be still in palletted BMP format
- For RGBA, IA and I textures, you can provide
*_rgb.png, *_a.png or
*_rgb.bmp, *_a.bmp or
*_all.png
- Don't provide duplicate files for the same textures. If you provide the *_rgb, *_a files
and also *_all.png file, the actually loaded files are not determined.

Sorry To Get back to you so late, mollymutt. The texture for the wings is almost the same as the wing cap(wing), but looks almost like a cloud with a bit of green and blue in it. if you dump the super mario 64 textures it's in the png_by_rgb_a folder. I'd upload the texture itself, but I'm afarid of giving you a computer virus
