I'm a new user and I want to start retexturing games like Banjo Kazooie because I love the game but I hate the fact that it hurts my eyes. So, can Photoshop filter the blurriness out of some textures? Thanks.

Not really. You will have to make the resolution higher and then clean it up.

How do I make the resolution higher besides just remaking the entire texture?

I use phototshop 9. Yours might work dofferent is you use something else.

Image>image size then on the bottom it shows a resolution of 72. Change the resolution 2x 3x or 4x.

eg. 72 4x = 288.

Doesn't that just make it bigger?

Yes, it does. Thats what you want to do.

Where exactly do dumped textures go?

Datadayne

textures are dumped in a folder called texture_dump. That folder is located in the emulator's plugin folder.

If you want to load the textures, put the retextured textures in a folder called hires_texture, it should be in the same folder as texture_dump is. Inside the hires_texture folder, you will need to put the name of your game, make sure the name is the same as the name in the texture_dump folder.

I checked dump textures on Rice, and they dump, but there is no texture_dump folder.

There is. Your not looking in the correct place. What do you use? pj64 or 1964.
If you use pj64 it is locate like this. project64 1.6>plugins>texture dump>(the name of the game).

It says finding dumpped textures on the bottom of PJ64, but it still won't dump textures, in either OoT or Star Fox. D:

I'll even watch it dump but there are no dumped textures in the PJ64 plug-in folder. -_-

try creating the folder manually.

Tablecloth

I got it. Where are all the icon textures in OoT? Also, why are their three folders with the same files in them?

Datadayne

You can only retexture the last three folders. The others will not load.

Where are all the icon textures in OoT?
It sometimes takes time to dump.

Do I have to play the entire game to acquire ALL the textures? I only did the dump at the title screen. How long does OoT take to dump, on average?

DDRPIP

what you play is dumped... we have a STICKY with a whole tutorial and guide, it was just put up there maybe 2~3 weeks ago. use that for your information~.

Thanks, DDRRIP. It helped alot. I have another question. Do I have to go to every area in a game and dump the textures there to get them all?

Xenobond

Yes. The textures get dumped as they get loaded. And they get loaded whenever you enter an area/room.

Thanks. Also, how do I reload the textures I edit from my dump? Do I just do hires_textures/Mario 64/Courtyard or similiar?

DDRPIP

yup, doesn't matter what folder it's under once it's in the hires_textures/Mario 64 (eg the textures will load even if in: hires_textures/Mario 64/ teh big outside trees)

Kay. Thanks. Why, exactly are the same textures in the first three and folders and then the same are in the last two? I don't get why.

DDRPIP

well, only edit the last 3...
the difference is that the first 2 are bmp format and the last 3 are png format.
bmp's require coding (am I correct??) and are much larger in size.
png's are the one's everybody edits, you can find the same files in both formats in the different folders, so just edit png's. (every png has a bmp with the same image.)

remember: only edit the last 3 folders: "ci_by_png", "png_all", and "png_by_rgb_a". notice the png tag in the names??

I redid two textures but I can't load them. I have it has Plugin\hires_texture\Super Mario 64\place with trees lol\(two textures I redid from the courtyard) but they won't load.

What is the retextured textures name? If you change the name of the original texture, then it wont load. When loading textures, it finds the name of the texture. If the name is different, then rice video plugin wont find it.

Tablecloth

I saved it as the same name. I'm not sure why it won't load.

Datadayne

whats the size of your image? Are you retexturing from the wrong folder?

Tablecloth
June 14th, 2007, 18:23
I retextured from the fourth folder, one of the png ones. Is it because I didn't resize it to the original size? Is there a resolution/size cap?

DDRPIP
June 14th, 2007, 19:55
size yes, the resolution ONLY can be changed..
when you change the resoution by 2x 3x or 4x, it keeps the same size ratio (16x16 with 4x resolution is 64x64).
it reads it as the same size because the resolution and size is porportional to the original...
and the 4th and 5th have alpha masks... they are a combination of textures to one.. stick with ci_by_png first, it has the main textures.

Tablecloth

When I make it bigger, it will repeat it less, right?

DDRPIP
June 14th, 2007, 21:50
umm...tiling yes, make sure it's the resolution though... you'll need to resize then edit to make it easier to handle..
once you change the size then do the tiling, etc.

Can you edit together textures and have them recognized as one texture?
Also, is there a texture for the castle's walls in Super Mario 64? I can't find it.

Also, is there a texture for the castle's walls in Super Mario 64? I can't find it.It's in there, alright. Just look for that white cloud with the turquoise background image.

The textures must remain seperate. If they aren't, the resoultion will be forced. I know what you're asking, and I tried that myself once with Virtual Chess 64 to fix the accurate texture mapping problems with the title screen text and background, but the combined and merged texture will only be forced down to the resolution of the image before you save changes to it.

Example, if you merge several 32x32 textures into one 128x128 texture with the same file name as one of the 32x32 textures, the resolution of that image in the game itself will be compared to the file name of your new texture and resolutions must match.

That makes sense, and thanks, I'll look for the white cloud.
