That makes 85 games tested so far, (I'm keeping a list of them) and to my knowledge there are currently only 272 games out there. Practically 1 third of them are now tested!! That's great!!

Man this emulator has potential! Too bad about them having to take off the comment section on their homepage. Heres what I posted there:

0101 - Survival Kids - Lost in Blue (J)
[Opens, starts into, stops at first graphic]

0102 - Nintendogs - Labrador & Friends (E)
[Black screen, shows nothing]

0103 - Meteos (E)
[Cannot save error, gets ingame at 26fps, graphical errors]

0104 - Mahjong Taikai (J)
[Ingame at 30fps, graphical errors]

0105 - Castlevania - Dawn of Sorrow (E)
[Menus at 28fps, menus not drawn, cant get past "input data on the Touch Screen" beacsue of graphical errors (not drawing input stuff)]

0106 - Pac'n Roll (U)
[Into at 35fps with flashing screen, Game error message "Could not read the data. Turn off the power and reinsert the DS card."]

0107 - Tak - The Great Juju Challenge (U)
[Black screen, shows nothing]

0108 - Fifa 06 (E)
[Black screen, shows nothing]

0109 - Frogger - Helmet Chaos (U)
[Menus look great, 40fps in menu and "story", ingame at 33fps with major graphical errors]

0110 - Lost in Blue (U)
[Opens, starts into, stops at first graphic]

0111 - Advance Wars - Dual Strike (E)
[Black screen, shows nothing]

0112 - Trace Memory (U)
[Screen fades from white to black and back and forth then stops (really weird)]

0113 - Ultimate Spider-Man (U)
[Skips around in intro then freezes, graphical errors]

0114 - Lunar - Dragon Song (U)
[Black screen, shows nothing]

0115 - Whac-A-Mole (U)
[ Game error message "Could not read the data. Turn off the power and reinsert the DS card."]

Question: How did you guys get your screenshots? I would love to take some but it is quite a hassle when the built in command makes two seperate pix for each screen and copys over them each time you use it.

Seeing everything is in png im guessing the emulator has a screen shot option or people are pressing print screen. See if that helps , if not Ill check when I get home.

Used the screenshot function, took them out of the folder when created, and then combined them manually with a image editor.

I did mine with the Print Screen option (on the keyboard), it's the hard way, but I like picture editing and all that and it's fine with me!!
Oh and thanks Clements for making a separate forum for this (iDeaS I mean). It should make it easier for people to find it!!
To everyone else, keep sending your results!! If this keeps up, there might actaully be a complete list before the next version of the iDeaS comes out!! (Shows how much people wanna see it progress)

Hi folks your friendly moderator here :D
I stickied this so it appears at the top of the forum. Please do NOT ask questions about how to run games, or if you have problems with a game in this thread, create a new thread to ask questions such as that. This thread is for obviously compatibility information. :D
ChaosC0d3 I don't recomend quoting an entire post to ask a short question or make a short response. Just try quoting what you are responding too next time :whistling
Good job people! Psyman, everything is all your fault ;) :rolleyes:Cyb - all right now get back to your compatibity information hehehe

So what are the games that run best?

Low Lines
January 4th, 2006, 12:39
It would depend wouldn't it? Whether speed, accuracy and/or quality makes it best. Some games may run fast, while others go slowly but with fewer graphic errors. Plus it's still a little early to be asking such things I should think.
Anyway, to all others, keep up the good work!!

Actually, it's not frozen. Just stuck on that frame. Wait for a bit (minute or so), and it'll fade to white, then the title screen will appear. From there, you can actually play the game... liger301,
I just like to admire the fact that that people can actually write programs that do things that aren't supposed to be possible. ie commercial games are supposed to be hack proof, yet people are hacking into them.

Do not post unrelated things to a thread. This is a compatibility list it has nothing to do with anything you were ranting about or saying.
Do not make 3 posts in a row EDIT your original post instead. I'm sorry if you can't read the TITLE of the thread, and I'm sorry you can't read the EDIT button that sits on the posts you make, however I recomend you do BOTH from now on. I am posting this publicly to the thread and I am sending it to you in a PM as well. I don't mind people making comments etc., however I don't see anything that contributes and if anything you are doing the oposite. "Thanks guys" or "That's great!" are both more useful than your comments. Be civil and think about what you are saying before you say it.
[Moderator Mode Off]
Calm down, so maybe you hate something or are frustrated, don't beat people in the head with it. Find another forum that it's acceptable to discuse such issues in as well. Most of all BE CIVIL, a jerk is never appreciated even if what they say might be useful.

Good job testing people, I believe this will help the emulator authors also because they can narrow compatibility issues faster if they have a smattering of games and compatibilities.

I am happy to help too. Lino and the teams are doing a good job. They will success it just like VisualBoy Advance! ;)

January 8th, 2006, 04:37
You know, cos I've been going through all the games and that, they all seem to have the same/similar problems so maybe if Lino can fix a particular problem in one game, it should work for all the others because these NDS must all have similar coding. Unlike Gamecube where every game has its own files and instructions on how to run them, if you get what I mean?

RockmanForte
January 8th, 2006, 06:21
Yeah I get what you mean. Just like Game boy advance..that is why this author have no problem with VisualBoy Advance. So NDS should do the same. :)

Low Lines
January 8th, 2006, 06:27
It seems that only with the 3D games that there are some problems/differences. So maybe NDS is just another GBA Emulation Arena or maybe it's a crossover between both, who knows??

diablow
January 8th, 2006, 14:05
Correct me if I'm wrong, but DS and GBA shares the same ARM7 CPU. So, in perfect world, if you have working GBA emulator, just slap on touchscreen, X Y buttons and ARM9 emulation code and and you have a working DS emulator.
Now, back to reality, with some more games for almost complete compatibility list:
Tiger Woods PGA Tour (U) - doesn't work
Snood 2 - On Vacation (U) - doesn't work
Pac-Man World 3 (U) - intro only
Texas Hold'em Poker DS (U) - playable, graphics errors
Shrek - Super Slam (U) - doesn't work

Low Lines
January 8th, 2006, 14:16
diablow,
You've obviously been paying attention to all the NDS Emulation info. I forgot about ARM7 CPU, it's the main reason why NDS is reverse compatibile isn't it?? The ARM9 would be the main problem as to why things don't work properly, ie touchscreen and 3D. And the 3D graphics are supposed to be similar to N64 right?? So I take it they will be hard to do.

the ARM9 and ARM7 processors are quite similiar in instruction set encoding. As for differences between the GBA and NDS there are numerous. For example the ARM7 and ARM9 share common memory. They can be operated simultaneously as well. The biggest difference is the 1 meg of video memory the NDS has and it's 3d rendering. Not all games will work because not all of the ARM9 instruction set is supported as well as the synchronisation between the two processors. I'm not sure what the iDeaS authors are doing for the two instruction streams, too me it would be a bit insane. My explaination follows, shared memory (IE both processors can access it) you have to think of this in terms of process threads in a PC, in most cases cannnot be accessed simultaneously. SO the authors have 2 processors running at the same time sharing various chunks of memory between them. This can be done by 2 threads, however it requires thread synchronization just like the processors require synchrnization when accessing shared memory.

In simple terms, it's an expanded GBA that shares it's memory with another processor and extra hardware. Hence why making it work for simple programs that only use the GBA's features is easy. Making it compatible with things that use the addition hardware is not :)

Let's keep on the compatibility info her huh? :D

DeathRain99
January 15th, 2006, 01:18
Well, this has to do with compatibility, and about Sonic Rush (U), so I figured I should post it here. I figured out how to make it run partially... um, read on, you'll see. Someone tested and later I did, not knowing it had already been tested. According to the flash compat. program neither of us got it to work... however, now I've figured out a way to get to the menu's, very strangely, maybe it'll work for other games?

Okay, well, first you have to run a working rom, like Mr. Driller for example. (Not all might work) While it's at the intro doing it's thing with logos, click the 'open file' button folder thing. Choose Sonic Rush (U), and "just press play, you gotta do it anyway". Give it a couple seconds, and the bottom screen should blink a random color. It could be red, blue, white, or green from what I've seen. Anyway, knock in a combo of enter and z buttons, and you should make the color go to the top screen, keep doing it and the logos will start... Keep goin' :plain: ... Now you should give it a sec and it'll have the menu up. Just keep pressing enter and z till It gives you three options. All of them will make it crash unfortunately.

Now, if you ask me, it's strange that it works, and perhaps it can make other games that have black screens work as well. I only tested Lost Magic too, and it didn't work :(

The reason I post this is because I really want someone to try this also. Please. You never know if something like this could work, it did for Sonic Rush...

If you think I'm trying to make you waste 5 minutes of your life, I got some screens for proof:
http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/5131/sonicrush7dc.png

The top left screen is the top screen of the first step into the menu. The bottom left screen is if you let the game sit on the main menu, it appears to go ino a cinematic, but then it just crashes. The screen on the right is the screen after you pick the first option at the main menu. My crappy paintbrush text explains the rest.

Please test this also, I might just have some king of weird defectiveness with my computer :plain:

Edit - My bad. Sorry for the double post.

PS - Incase you didn't get my point, this post wasn't all about getting Sonic Rush into the menu's, but rather perhaps a method of getting other games that hang on black screens to work also.

PS2- Also, could someone try this with another version of Sonic Rush, like (E) or (J)? I can't get my hands on one at the moment.

Low Lines
January 15th, 2006, 01:32
From what you are saying, it sounds like you are skipping intros, ie like with gamecube emulators how some of them need to be skipped in order to reach the menus. That would be great and all, but I don't think it should be counted or anything (with Compatibility I mean) because you said it crashes any soon afterwards meaning it still Doesn't Work. Maybe if Evrain or Lino hears about this, they could possible use it to increase compatibility for the next release or something, you know skipping the black screen like you said, but perhaps in a more stable form?? Who knows??

Cyberman,
I'll think about, but thanks for backing us up and all and removing any unwanted no-thinkers, ie that dude who whined about NDS Emulation a while ago.

And hey DeathRain99, guess what!! I tested that hack thingy you told me about and it does work for Sonic Rush (U) sorry, I don't have access to the others regions. But I also tested some other games and I struck gold!!

Super Princess Peach (J) is able to go INGAME!! though cos its in JAP and the textures are all messed up, its not playable. But I also have some new info on this hack thing. You should check this thread for any games that change color of their screen and stay like that. Cos Princess Peach gets a white screen upon load and it doesn't need another game like Mr. Driller previous run to bypass the intros. Aww man!! As cool as this hack is, I refuse to include it with the compatibility list, since several other games I tested caused the Emulator to force shutdown which doesn't do too good for your PC. You should make your own thread for this and get other people to test this hack on more games, cos I bet there's at least a dozen others that will boot.

Here's Super Princess Peach (J)!!!

Haha! Yeah! That's sweet. And my mom thinks I do nothing on the computer, just 'cuz I click random things 'till it works. :D I'm still confused about how it happens, but if it works, hey, I have nothing against it.

I haven't tried any new games, but I plan on it later tonight, so hopefully I'll be able to edit with some news.

(Should there be a note in the compatibility file about running certain files, like 'intro hack' or something? Or should they still be left as unplayable due to the difficulty of opening it?)

Cheers,

DeathRain99
January 15th, 2006, 03:32
^ I didn't really understand that, but I agree, I'd rather not run another file first, I just wish Lino luck or being able to skip the intro's or w/e is holding back those files from running. Hopefully, if we know why now, it'll make his job easier.

January 15th, 2006, 03:42
That's precisely the reason why I'm not putting anything about this hack into the compatibility list, because it does not occur normally. Though I'm sure once Evrain sees this, he might become a little bit curious, but again it just isn't true emulation if you are playing around with it in a way that honestly shouldn't happen. Not that's it's bad or anything DeathRain99. I actually think it is either a falt in the code or the controls. Because iDeaS is clearly quite capable at emulating 2D graphics, probably because they are so similar to GBA, but it seems to have a few tweaks with the boot code or something. I bet provided that a game could go beyond the boot-up stage, there maybe 50 or so games that will suddenly work because they all have the same sort of format which they go by.:bouncy:

Yeah, I know what you mean. I hope we have the next update coming soon, hopefully with the boot-up fixed (Not to rush Lino or any others working on the project at all, time is meant to be taken :bouncy:)

Thanks for applauding me!!

And with this whole competition thing, just wait til the next version of iDeaS comes out or perhaps another NDS compat list is opened (it's getting close!!). You will then have over 300+ games to fight between yourselves plus any new ones that come out on a daily basis. You might have to break up the games between yourselves ie Rockmangames does the first 50 (or something) unless you'd rather compete with each other for it.:bouncy:

I don't think it matter who posts them. If I can post one before rockmangames, great. That means it's added earlier. The sooner, the better. If rockman continuously owns like this, that's great too, because it's quicker than I could do it. :P

I'm stocking up on games though to hopefully speed up on the testing for the next version.

If you read the rules of the boards it says no ROM requests :) this means don't ask don't give don't mention :)

eunit and FlaX

Also don't post things unrelated to the topic. If you have questions about a particular game. post in a seperate thread. Do not argue about the qualifications. Also I recomend reading that little sticky that informs you about what the ratings mean. Low Lines may need to change them sometime but read that before posting, its highly recomended.
