Another problematic issue here:

We were playing the "Harvest Moon 64 (U) [!]" ROM (ini code: 98DF9DFC-6606C189-C45, md5sum: 6da848a70d83ece130d274124760928e) happily until Winter 2nd day yesterday.

Starting off with new nvidia drivers (7667) today, the game hangs on every interaction scene with 100% CPU usage and a hang of several seconds (> 30s), then one can do some moves and get another 100% CPU usage. Interestingly we can just ride a second on the horse and the hang comes.

If we decide to walk around by ourself than we can play some seconds more before the hang comes.

It's the same mupen64 0.4 & gfx plugin like yesterday (selfcompiled with Glide64 gfx plugin) - trying other plugins results in the same problem. Is this just a driver dependant problem or what?!?

Then I suggest you to use the old driver version.

Well, with older drivers we don't get a good result, too. Something has to be changed in the meanwhile... The change came with the cows; as soon as we got lend some cows the game hangs. Before it worked smoothly :( Mad cows ;)

Well, via using the game internal saving method (the diary) we could play forth now; it plays well etc. and the reason for the hang has to be in the state saving / restoring methods then...
